Clamshell (with each side a monitor) the size of a hardback book (only thin), touchscreen and stylus sheath built in, Open it flat and a flip-stand and a laser-projected keyboard. 2-3 USB 3 ports, Bluetooth, wire-less USB suport, HDMI out. Discrete media controls (i.e. no- 2 key combos to do the basics, volume, play, etc.) Enough horse-power to photoshop, or excel (forget gaming, that`s a different scenerio), but 3-4 hrs battery life. Instant on!! (Come on MS, 5 iterations of Vista and none are specifically built for mobile users!, doh!)
The obvious basics wireless, LAN, Sound I/O, Video I/O, blah, blah...

My final "Really Cool Thing"...Wireless External HD and Optical drives, keyboard, print/scan/copyer. Separate battery-powered modules that you could leave or carry as needed.

1. I would construct a supercomputer a notebook made of 4-16 (small laguage) Cell (or Cell besed on G6 processor) processors. Because I am a scientst, so calculation power is essential to me. Thus, the power of some teraflops allowed me not to wait at the queue in the academic center for supercomputing, thus the data form the CERN (for example) from the acclerator would be processed directly at my home or on my desk in the institute. But it should be added special Linux system to allows me to write programs directly in assembler or even (rarely) in the machine code of such monstrum.
2. Maybe two or three graphics card because we often use fast fourier transform for our data, and the algorithm of them are bulid in in the graphics cards.
3. The power of 1,5 kW does not fears me because I don't use a TV, so there is no problem with the electricty bill.
3. The monitor should be of 24 inch so as to properly display numerical data as well as it would allow me to write scientific papers page besides page, and thus, I could control the apparence of the pictures and the text in the TEX system on the screen.
4. Of course, the cooling down should be very efficient.
5. Mathematica programm, CAD programm and programming languages (esp. Fortran, C, Assembler) should be included as standard or as normal extention of the system. Maybe some computer games for relax (e.g MOO3, Civilasation, Chessmaster) might be included.

Sorry, don't mean to hog space! Here is info on the Asus C90s,http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kPrw89QIXic plus, http://computershopper.com/feature/build-your-own-laptop-preparing-your-build Uses a DESKTOP Processor. Can support up to an Intel Core2 Duo X6800, in it's LGA 775 socket. Has BluRay option available, comes with DVD Dual Layer combo drive. Has a HDMI port, eSata port, TV Out port, Fingerprint reader, built-in Bluetooth, 8-in-1 card reader, and so on. I'm waiting for Asus to put out a better graphics card late this year. (Oh yeah! Did I mention it has a GRAPHICS CARD? One YOU can take out and upgrade! Same thing with the cpu! Will support up to 3GB's of DDR2 at 667MHz. Has 320GB |Sata HD available.

In would use the Asus C90s, and have a graphics card made that would be at least an Nvidia GeForce 8800GTS Alpha Dog Edition. So far they only come with the Nvidia GeForce 8600M GT with 512MB's of DDR2.
(This IS a graphics card, by the way!)

Personally, if it were for portability and reliability, I'd choose one of the Asus EeePCs. Preferably the 10" ones with these features:
1. SSD: Fast, reliable, lighter, and not using as much battery.
2. Bluetooth: It's a lot more mainstream than it was before, so having something like this would be very convenient.
3. Longer battery life: For portability, what else would you want?
4. Touch screen: Tablet-like. Pretty convenient, and just out-right cool. Hahah. It would be easier to use the pen than the dinky pad. But either way, I'd use both, the touch-screen mainly for fun.
5. Weight: Obviously would need to be light for portability.

BUT for a laptop replacing my desktop:
1. Large screen: Something like an 18 or 17" at 16:9 or 16:10, like Acer's new 8920G notebook. Not only should it be large, but it needs something like a matte finish to prevent glare.
2. Powerful GPU: Something like a 9800GT 512MB or, if available, maybe a mobile 4870.
3. Large internal space: Something like 500GB with an external 1.5TB HDD.
4. Unbelievable processor: C2E QX9770? Lol
5. Touch screen: For fun.

Well, since this place is for dreaming, then I will Dream Revolutionary, I will dream of a computer that is no larger than an eye glasses . .controlled by voice recognition, connected to internet (of course) all time and any where, connected easily to my house my work my friends and all communities that I care about, all programs are free and updated ( I will accept all kind of ADV as a price for this service) I can easily contact any one by voice or both video and voice, so I can call for emergency or call my wife or any one by telling the number.. if I want I can but my eye glasses(my computer) on my car's LCD or my home's LCD to be as A duck station, I even can but it around my hand and twist the eye glass the other side and use it as a hand PDA,,,, my computer is smart, he knows every thing, my name my family my friends, what I like what I don't like, my computer is smart, he knows if some one else took it a way or try to spy on me or if I forgot it some where, he knows how to come home by talking to strangers and asked them to take it home, he can bay money for the taxi or the DHL or who ever, my dream computer is smart, he knows when I am in bad or good mode.. he shows me nice pic's, make me listen to nice music that I like depending on my mode.. he is soo smart to close he's eyes when I started kissing my wife..:) he can communicate with my wife's computer if the other side agreed. and he could learn what my wife likes or dislikes, copy some music that she found lately and she likes, and also give the other side same knowledge, and it can do the same with my friends too...

Hum... This idea of two screens posted by Shtanto is interesting. But for me, I still need a regular keyboard.

TJ Sharpe (again)

While I'm here like a kid stuck on Santa's lap I might as well ask for an optical reader I can swipe my drivers license across as a hardware version of a password since there's no keyboard. I also want a slave mode where I link my laptop to a regular ( boring) PC for when I'm forced into old style hardware use.

I don't want a battery. I want a Stirling engine generator(side mount-detachable). No keyboard. Voice recording and voice recognition. I want a quad core with all my software burnt in masked programed ROM.(with the ability for me to socket in more as I program it). All data is SDD. No screen, Eye reticle only. Two additional DSP processors one video, one audio. And a small projection system as primary output to the nearest wall for presentations. Two micro controllers for analog lab inputs and robotic outputs. If you have a screen associated with it, it will be a tri-fold separate attachment with a separate power supply. ( Is this enough to ask for?)
