If it's water-proof, I don't think it really needs to have a floating shell, unless you want to use you laptop on the very edge of a boat...

Lagenomai

There is a company in Maine which waterproofs any electronics with some sort of vacuum sealed coating.

A Macbook Air with SS drive ad some small holes drilled in the bottom for drainage, dipped in this sealer might be the answer....

Yeah, like comments below me, the idea is great! But, you do come to the cooling factor. Honestly, i thimk its possible with water cooling, but it would cost alot of money that wouldn't generate alot of sales as i presume the target market for this product would be very narrow.

well this is somewhat possible with the Panasonic tough book but.. i would have to guess the main thing that is the problem is cooling but i think there are some catches to water cooling.. they may just be rumors but i heard they are not all they are chalked up to be... so i think that maybe the engineers should maybe look into some different cooling techniques because that was a main problem with having a lot of ram and multiple processors...

it could also be cooled by water maybe? it could be thinker with a HD cam but have a bright light or back light for darker ocean places it would have to take a lot of pressure the armed forces needs this a lot when they deal with water or mud
