Maybe try to use water proof internals and cover anything non-waterproof inside? For a floating laptop shell, there could be air filled pockets inside the machine to help it float, and maybe make it so that the entire computer can be used underwater to aid in undersea research. I like this concept.
This isn't a good idea for the simple fact that when you designed this, you included next to no ports. But there's another fundamental problem with it, you would have to have next to no real power or else it's overheat in a second, destroying itself.
This is a cool idea, I was actually imagining having a waterproof laptop the other day. It would be cool to bring to the beach, or on a boat. With a 3G connection you could go out fishing and broadcast about your catches! That would be cool.
You could also bring it out in the rain and not have to worry so much about wrapping it up to make sure it doesn't get soaked, right?

I also like the comment below, shock-resistant - that would be optional.
This is an awesome idea. But I think it should also be shock-resistant , and all the ports should be cap sealed.
