I like this idea a lot. Cut out the built-in cost of providing a Windows/Mac OS, but allow the customers total freedom to choose whatever suits them without worrying about compatibility issues. Very nice!
Great idea. I do not agree with using open hardware for all the components but things such as a microphone, speakers and webcam is for me best option. Imagine the world where you can install any OS and be at ease because you know it will handle all usually unsupported parts of notebook or pc. I personally see open-source software as best view. If you cannot go to stores with linux onboard at least don't tain windows with soft such as nero, adobe acrobat, MSOffice and especialy Norton or McAfee. And if you have to use linux us normal Ubuntu.

how about an openPC that runs one operating system really well?
Yay! This would be great. A cheap PC with hardware you are guaranteed to find driverrs for. Shipping with Ubuntu/Kubuntu by default would be great.
