I can see that you have a diversity of responses here. Let's put it in this perspective: I want something to mix business with pleasure. I like having a PSP or a DS around on business trips and I also need to have my notebook when I'm away or on vacation. I'm also a tinkerer (that applies to both computers and cars). The less cluter I bring around with me, the better. That's why I came up with this idea:

The gaming laptop version would be this:

I'm just curious to see how many among us see the same types of uses for our personal computing devices.

From the day I heard about the ION platform I was thinking "that would be great for something like a netbook". But didn't think it was plausible. They way the netbooks were being marketed and with the screen size, people wouldn't go for it. Then I thought a little more. Thanks to the lower screen resolution, the ion platform will be able to really pump out performance. And netbooks are so portable and lightweight, they're not bothersome to carry around, unlike regular 15"+ laptops. It only makes sense to drop the ION platform into a netbook.

That and it's not like every netbook would have it, so you'd actually be able to expand your demographic. Yeah.

sounds interesting, I'd probably get it if I were in the market for a netbook.

Hell ya! I've beaten dungeon siege on my aspire one and it could get pretty bad fps wise. With a 9400M in a netbook, it would probably be able to run more recent games on low settings, more so if they use a Z550. It would save me the trouble of having to use my gaming pc to play small things like Audiosurf or Defcon without lag.

The diverse the better. As long as it doesn't weigh you down and hinder gaming anyway. I say go for it. Seems like a Yaris for notebooks, it should get the job done and looks good for the money savers/practical gamers.

Of course we could, with a little elbow grease!

Less than five hundred bucks and having the theoretical ability to play games is nothing but awesome in my cheap ass book.

I'd buy the crap out of it if it was ever produced.

Sounds pretty awesome. I actually was interested in getting a netbook myself because of the portability, and if it'll also be able to decently play some games, that would be an awesome (time wasting) bonus!

$500 and I'd have to think about it. Make it come in at under $400 and I'd definitely/strongly consider it. I'm more video than games when it comes to computers and having video hardware accelerated is something I've always wanted in a small laptop, something which my thinkpad x30 is incapable of doing. Also, toss in an amplified sound chip that can do Dolby Digital Live and Dolby Headphone and I'll be knocking down old ladies to get to the nearest store to get one. ION is a good thing and intel needs to step up their game.

I would totally buy one! I often have LANs and while I have a relatively easy to move boot camped iMac I would love a laptop to game on wherever.
