I agree on the auto-playlist. Don't like others choice of music. Although it killed me to remove my
Cajun music from my blog.. It is so unique & is one of Louisiana's pride. The music can transport a person, right to the bayou!
You're a gem Ree! Come for a crawfish boil!

I was introduced to Pioneer Woman a few months back. I was hooked immediately and visit daily. I really enjoy the detailed instructions, with photos, of some of the cooking techniques. It got me to try cinnamon rolls for the first time ever. Oh my!
Anyway, I tend to open several blogs at once and let the pages load while I'm doing something else. Having 3 or 4 music players going at once is really annoying. I end up turning off my speakers or stopping the music. I really don't care for it.
I tend to gravitate toward other Christian bloggers, even though our beliefs may be quite different.
Excessive cursing is a put-off. However well placed it may seem, I just don't care for it. I, too, was raised to believe that using curse words was a mask for not having a vocabulary sufficient to properly describe something. Now, if I slam my foot in the door and let a word or two fly, that's a little different. But, do I really need to write out those words on the blog? If I were relaying the story, I'm sure the reader would get the picture without writing out the exact words.
I like to see lots and lots of pictures to go with the posts, although I don't always follow that myself. I need to do better on that one.
Like some others have said, I'd like to know more about attracting visitors. My blog with go in spurts where I get a couple hundred visitors in a day, then no visitors for a few days. Even with the visitors, I have very few commenters.
Looking forward to your blogger class; but hoping BHtTW#4 comes first. :-)
I just re-read my post and it sounds pretty harsh.
Ree, I really have not noticed typos, poor grammar or bad sentence structure in your blog or those I regularly follow. I'm speaking of the blatantly obvious and regular errors that occur in blog writing.
Perhaps is the error-to-content ratio that concerns me most.
I like good writing. If a blog has typos, poor grammar and bad sentence structure in all or most of the posts, I will quickly dismiss the blog and the author. Good writing gives bloggers the appearance of professionalism and intelligence. Bad writing doesn't really make me want to give any worth or credit to the writers. If the writing is bad, how can I expect the content to be credible?
Ree I think you have one of the best designed and enticing blogs currently available in the blogosphere, thanks for your daily efforts! What draws me to a blog:
1. An interesting cast of characters
2. A healthy dose of animal pics and stories
3. Realistic food prep and receipes
4. Great photography
5. Good natured humor
Question to Ree...How do you strike the balance/find a comfort zone in sharing your broad "cast of characters" and honoring/preserving a level of personal privacy? As someone who has considered blogging, I struggle with this delicate balance and would REALLY appreciate hearing your perspective.
Wow - you always draw so many comments Ree. After reading back through since I first commented this morning, I guess I have these things to add.
1 -- autorun music is nearly always a bad idea. You never know where browsers are coming from and this means you can make people very angry if they are "caught out" by unexpected sound.
2 -- there will always be the the people who drop "F" bombs vs the people who don't. If you write well enough to draw an audience and your blog is geared to an older crowd, cussing up a storm will very likely not be an issue. If you want to write for family oriented people, chances are better for you to draw an audience if you keep it clean and exercise your imagination when you are irritated to the max. (I read and enjoy both types of blogs - my own blog is G to PG rated)
3 -- there are exceptions to every rule.
So how does a successful blogger "do it"? I have 2 words

The blogs I read most are from people who post happy stuff about their lives, and good recipes.
I don't care for animated Ads on blogs, or too many Ads. The animated Ads just draw too much attention from what the post is about.
To me, that's worse than the f-bomb.
It's like here's my life, brought to you by McDonolds. Buy a Happy Meal.

Thanks and keep up the good work!
I love your blog and stop by every day, sometimes more than once.
Here's my list of things I don't like to see on a blog, and that aren't on yours, that's why I keep coming back.
Music
Profanity. I'm not a prude, but I don't want to read swear words.
"I've been sick....."
"My kids have been sick.."
"My dog/cat has been sick"
I have my own woes, I don't
want to read someone else's.
Misspelled words every sentence. An occasional typo is no problem but use spellchecker if you want me to read and come back.
Ragging and flaming of others. I have enough drama in real life.
I do love blogs that teach me something, make me smile, feel nostalgic, and generally feel like I have a friend.
Thanks Ree!
That was me.
Uh...oops!
Great points, Theresa and KJ.
And I think we have a consensus here: Autoplay music should be a felony!
