What also keeps it interesting is that you have more then one subject you share. You have your confessions, cooking, photo, home/garden and homeschooling. Don't forget your Twittering.... Each section is refreshing and different. You also give us a taste of your life without being ALL of your life. There is still a bit of mystery.

Yep, I agree that's what keeps your site so compelling to read!

Since I am a bit unfocussed most of the time, I actually manage to mix up the content on my own site, and I think I have increased my readership from 3 (maybe 4) readers to, I dunno, maybe 5? But is sure is a lot of fun to post about different subjects - no rut here!

Keep up the good work. And WE WANT PUPPY PICS!

I really agree with you! I like versatility, which makes me a sound like a hypocrite! When I started my blog a few weeks ago, our instructor said to stick to one topic and have it be something you're an expert in. SO that's what I did...sewing! I am random in the topics I discuss, but it's all about sewing. I think in this case it works since I'm giving instruction and techniques. My daughter wants me to start another blog with all sorts of random things and I think I will. What I enjoy about your site is that it is different every day and so fun! If I don't get my PW fix every day, I feel like I missed something special and important. Thanks!

I totally agree with this step Ree. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of mixing things up a bit. There's a regular blog that I go to and she posts every day monday-friday at 5 a.m., with the same topic on each day of the week. Obviously she works ahead of time. After a while, it is boring as I know I've seen it for the day, so I don't come back.

Imagine how much it would help her advertising if she posted randomly throughout the day on different topics. I would check her blog 4-5 times a day (Like I do PW) instead of just once.

Therefore, I post at all different times of the day on my own blog, just so that ppl keep checking, never knowing when something new is coming up.

I enjoy the wide variety of subject matter you pull from your ranch life and it's colorful cast of characters! Do you have any advice/insight on how you find the balance between someone's privacy and their activity at the ranch? This is one of my greatest struggles as I contemplate blogging. Keep up the good work Ree, your blog is a daily joy and inspiration for what a blog "should be".

Exactly, it's so much fun going to your blog and not knowing what to expect.

Funny timing. I just moments ago added a new "Movie Mania" category to my site, and published my first movie-related post. Curious to see how well or poorly it is received by readers who, up until now, have mostly been reading parenting tales.

Your blog is definitely an excellent example of mixing things up, Ree ... and I would take what you said above one step further as pertains to "The Pioneer Woman": Confessions is only one of several sub-blogs that fall under "The Pioneer Woman" umbrella. If a blogger has the time and skills, this is definitely a good way to keep people interested---including yourself---and increase traffic.

I have found keeping a variety of content is very important. Some days I blog about family history, other days my garden, then other days my kids, my laundry, my recipes, my dog, my feelings on becoming a mother. I try not to be too serious (except when I am also feeling hormonal).

Sometimes it helps to plan ahead your posts so you make sure you're not posting the same stuff over and over.
