Exclusive Asus EeePC S101 First Look

Posted by jean aw in Netbook PC | Oct. 30, 2008 11:00 AM

Firstly, i'm pretty much blown away. No offense to Asus, but i never expected the packaging for the Eee PC S101 to be quite this pretty. Also, i'm so completely flattered that these mysterious pics showed up in my email ~ as much as i'm having fun with the Eee PC 901 i showed you an unboxing of yesterday, i'm totally lusting after this barely launched Eee PC S101 that i think is shopping on Nov 1st. It's thinner, it's sleeker, it's far prettier... and check out this packaging!!! Anyhow, first look unboxing sneak peek for our WePC readers!

To catch you up on basic specs ~ 10.2" 1024x600 screen, Intel Atom N270, 10/100 + bluetooth + 802.11n, 1GB DDR2, SSD 16/32/64GB with 30GB location free Eco Storage, .3 M Pixel Camera, weighs 1kg, and comes in Brown, Champagne, and Graphite.

It's hard to deny that this packaging makes it a perfect target for no fail gifting this holiday season, throw a ribbon and a bow on it and you're good to go!

Upon opening, a sleek case awaits you...

Lift the flap...

Slip out the S101...

Interesting use of space to tuck the cables into the framing of the packaging...

Feels a bit more mac like in the perfectly compartmentalized unboxing experience...

Simple, minimal paperwork ~ 16GB sd card ~ and battery as thin as a new iPhone...

Actually the S101 itself isn't all that much thicker than an iPhone... don't they look cute together? That chromed out edge and the black gloss?

And as usual... for those who like the laptop underbellies...

Ok now that i've been thoroughly teased with pics (which, of course, i couldn't resist sharing with you!) ~ i can't wait to see one of these Eee PC S101s up close... if its nearly as solid as the Eee PC 901 i showed you an unboxing of yesterday, and really super thin... it seems like a great next step for the Netbook world!

Iain

Lovely little thing. Looks almost as good as my Acer Aspire One. =P

I'm considering buying an eeePC, as I am a super-broke freelance Illustrator/Designer, with a behemoth of a desktop, and not much space to use it in.. I would be interested to know, however, if it can run apps from external drives, if it has enough power/room for software to run gimp or Manga Studio, and can interface with a wacom tablet? Can it connect to a second monitor? Can I load many fonts on it?

Nice, good loking laptop, good for school, but for me as a student is too expensive. Other models of EeePC in my opinion are worse than this little fellow.

That's a nice packaging.

However, the Eee logo don't fit for a laptop. They really should change it for something that actually fit with the desing of a computer.

Now that's what I'm talking about! Nice material choices and you can tell they spent time cleaning up the design details. Well done Asus. Enjoy Jean.
