Do you currently share and transfer data between 2 computers? If so how do you currently transfer data between 2 computers? (Direct network connect? Wireless? Bluetooth?)

I have a network based storage to share files between multiple computers. Anyone, with permission, can access the files from wifi, local ethernet or the 'net

I frequently network my computers to back up photos and music. I usually plug my laptop in to take advantange of faster transfer speed vs wireless.

Tardisman

Two desktops and two notebooks are on the network. The two desktops are cable connected, and the two notebooks wirelessly connected through the router.

No, but I would probably us Ethernet and for other PCs use USB ect. I could then hypothetically make a direct connection and cluster it together to all do the same process.

Yes, I am constantly transfering data between computers. For that, i have created a main server on which every computer can connect by LAN and WLAN (wireless) to be able to share printers and files. I even created a website to be able to download some file from other locations when i could have forgot to download a file. This is great. The only thing is that i'm not using bluetooth because it's kinda tricky sometime when i am trying to transfer a document from a windows to an other windows (some pairing problems can sometime appear from no where)

How I move files depends on the operating system.

If I'm transferring files between Unix systems on a LAN, I just pipe tar into netcat. Most Unix systems have both programs, and when you have Zeroconf or other name resolution system, it's really easier than bothering with any sort of security. Just open a random high port on the firewall.

Likewise, when I need some files from home, and I'm at a Unix system, I transfer them via SCP or Rsync. I have a Nokia Internet Tablet, so I always have a Unix system with me.

Windows acts like it's alone in the network. Microsoft tries too hard to make it incompatible with other operating systems, or other versions of Windows, or the same version of Windows in a different environment. So, I use it like it's alone. Except for limited situations, I use USB drives, and try to be wary about autostart worms. I hate every version of Windows so very much.

However, for small files that I know I need to share, I put my stuff online. I envy the programmers, whose life work and home directory could be SVN'd across their Linux server, laptop, and so on. I stuff really small files into emails in Gmail, and then leave them in the Drafts folder, never actually sending them.

I use a USB hard drive.

You can get a USB enclosure for a 2.5" laptop hard drive which is powered off the USB port. The drive can fit in your pocket or laptop bag easily.
