Accessories: The NOTCOT Essentials

"Are there computer accessories and peripherals that you can’t you live without?  Are there ways you would integrate these into your notebook to improve its portability or make it more hassle-free?" This question gets asked a lot ~ and the more trips i have the more streamlined things get... honestly there isn't much, but don't laugh! Here's what i can't do without... and a few less essential but also make the list when packing objects... and honestly, there is SO much the laptop does (and combined with cell phone ~ how much more do you need?)

So firstly, the phones.... whether its tethering for internet, or just doing filling in more gaps of when i either dont have the laptop handy, or well.... it definitely complements my laptop lifestyle!

I have trust issues, and speed issues, and power issues... and for all of those, my laptop always needs the age old back up of a good notebook! and pen/markers! Here's the latest one that been running around with me in my purse as of late...

(thats an Exploding Dog sticker that got cut up and added on during SDCC this year - if you haven't read the comic, you should. Also his newer one Dog Hates Me)

There are always a few of these in my wallet (and whatever other purse devices have SD cards at the time)... SD to USB, they are smaller and more multipurpose than most USB keys... i have others too, but these definitely make the essential list. You can pop it into someone ELSE's camera, or grab files, or dump files, SO easily...

On power ~ i can't seem to get enough power adapters ~ i have them in nearly every room ~ and when people come over, sometimes i wish i had two standard in each room!  And honestly ~ this one would be awesome to have it somehow built in.... b/c the chargers usually take up far more room than devices these days! I might as well have a bag full of them when i travel!

On travel musts ~ i no longer carry an ethernet cable and airport extreme... but i do bring one of these! Whether you stick a country adapter on the other side... or just can't find enough plugs to charge everything be it at the airport or in a hotel room... its AWESOME.

Oh and for a sneak peek at Dog Hates Me ~ here's one of my favorites that nicely summarizes me feelings about my laptops... i never do make it to fulfilling that last panel though...

I also have a netbook, a HP Mini and there are definitely accessories I can't live without. First, my notebook bag that I need to carry my laptop. What I bought recently is an external drive from Targus that can play DVDs and CDs. That's really nice because you can watch DVDs in the train or in the park.

I don't have many accessories but if i take my laptop with me i like to carry my headphones and ipod charger. I like my headphones for extra privacy and watching videos.

For me, I can't live without my iPhone. It can do everything and it is so portable. But what if my iPhone was integrated into my notebook? Ever think of that?
That would be amazing. Having to things at once.

Cat-5 cable is a must, power strip is always a great idea. But I might add that you could also benefit from a couple of adapter if one were to do international travel. I always carry my light video camera, and a small 8.1 megapixel camera to snap a couple video if necessary. With all of these added accessories, it would be an excellent idea to add a couple packs of AA batteries along with a plethora of micro-SD cards with the adapters for the usb hook-up along with the adapter between the different sizes of SD.

I agree with ddenisdlmd on this matter. For me on the other hand it would be a 14 inch wide screen mini laptop with a Bluetooth headset built in and either Verizon or another provider for internet on the go. And a small, removable touch screen that works as a pda/phone. And a built in cord so i can just pull it out the side. And battery life is a super much.

For me, I'd rather not carry too many accessories... but right now I still have to. When I go out I still bring my notebook, cellphone, PDA and all the other 'peripherals'. Given the chance, I'd immediately go for an all-in-one true convergence gadget. This would probably be a netbook-sized full OS tablet style PC (like an overgrown PDA) with a portable ultrathin but full-sized wireless keyboard with a sim card slot or 3G phone function that comes with a standard bluetooth earpiece and mic. Make provisions for all wireless connectivity options so that I don't have to bring extra USB cables or adapters when I need to connect other devices or computers (I'd love that wireless docking thing). Add an exceptionally good battery life and a way to hot-swap for a fresh extra battery (also ultrathin) so that I won't have to bring my charger too.
