Eight Steps to a Successful Blog: Step 3 - Longter
Posted by reedrummond in | May. 25, 2009 8:00 PM
Okay, wait. Let me begin by saying something really, really important:
If you are blogging very casually, if you are only blogging for close family and friends, for fun, for fancy, or for your own ...
Hi Ree, do you have any opinion on .com vs. .us or having a dash in your name? My blog is called "Make it Do" http://makeitdo.wordpress.com and I tried to buy www.makeitdo.com but a squatter has it and wanted like $850 for it... too rich for my blood. So I have been searching for alternatives with frustration. Thanks, Calli
Thank you so much for offering these lessons - I'm about to start a blog to link to our real estate website, and have been tumbling around looking at the blogs of others. Yours is a lovely blog, and I am enjoying it enormously. It is also a wonderful model of a multi-topic blog. You have really mastered the paradigm of blogging, I'm awed and impressed. I will continue to visit, long after I'm done researching how to begin my own. Ree, I wonder if you realize that on your blog, the links for lesson 2 and lesson 3 are both labeled "lesson 3"? That is just the kind of thing I would do, but I'd be happy if when someone noticed, they told me. (Yup, I'm the one who goes up to folks in the grocery store to let them know the label is poking up in the back of their sweater, or has her husband tell the guy we see who has his zipper down, that he needs to attend to it - it is one of my eighty eight bad faults.)
I bought our domaine name through Godaddy. We are hosted by typead. The transition was seamless, Godaddy and Typepad both gave us great support.

Now guys....what do you know about getting a "certified" domain name from go Daddy? Anyone done that? It looks like it is just if you are going to run a business on your blog. Not me, just photo journaling....
Hey now... there had to be at least 50 of us when you made the switch from Blogger to Type pad. I still remember ooh-ing and ah-ing over your first pretty header. That was a long time ago! LOL
Wanna know what my RECAPTCHA word is right now? "Doing Eskimo" I don't know how I feel about that. I really don't.
I did it! My new domain name is www.tjaranch.com. It redirects to my blogger account right now, but I want it to be easy to switch if I ever want to.
My passion is writing my blogs and it is great to meet many like minded people with the same values and faith. I also bought my domain names for $10 each on godaddy.com - much easier to direct people..

This is a great post!
If anyone out there is interested in help with setting up your own domain as well as blog re-design, visit my blog insertgracehere.com
or my sister, Ginger, at heresmycuplord.com
Ginger's husband, Jerry, designed both of our blogs as well as set Ginger's new domain name up.
You can email either of us for more info.
So stop by and visit...
Actually, it's easy to redirect with Go Daddy. You just go to your domains manager link, then click on the domain (I have around 7 I've bought through them). At the top of the page, you'll see a green arrow and below that it says "forward", click on that. Then put in the address you want the url to forward to.
For me, it was working within minutes, but it might take a day or so for everyone to be able to get to your blog via that domain.

I'm having this problem at the moment. My first choice is gone, (i basically made up the word even!). I've registered a couple other domains, but my heart is so set on what I already want... I keep dragging my feet and here I am going on TWO YEARS without my own domain. I probably should get on it since I have big plans!
