    It sounds to me like you're either describing a PC that you can't upgrade, or a video game console that runs x86-based software on it (just like an original XBox, but without the DRM signing).

    Here's the problem with that: The manufacturer would have to make all their money up front, because they can't subsidize the cost and make the money back by licensing other companies to produce games for it. So, you end up paying $1000 for a game console who's only benefit is that it can play current PC games... for the next year or two until PC specs double.
