    NOTEBOOK PC : IDEA

My idea is for a standard form-factor for laptop motherboards as well as components. This will give the consumer the most bang for their buck while having an eco-friendly impact. Here's how:

    1) Create one or two STANDARD motherboard sizing/dimension specs. So, when the next innovations bring even faster FSB speeds, we can replace the motherboard.

    2) Modularity: Make everything modular connect to the motherboard. CPU, RAM, Video, Drives, Cooling fans, maybe even the wireless networking and audio if feasible.

This will allow us to hold on to the other, perfectly good components and replace them at their own rates of innovation.

    3) Easily detachable/replaceable screen. Let us upgrade the keyboard and screen separately.

Not only does less stuff end up in a landfill (or need to be recycled), but consumers can upgrade a component at a time, extending the life of the laptop indefinitely.

The same form-factors/standards could be used for small-form factor desktop PCs - allowing them the same benefits.
