    NETBOOK PC : DREAM

    The Dreampad
    Posted in netbook | November 3, 2008 3am

A 10.2 inch touch screen capable of true 768 x 1024 resolution. The netbook will have a screen and keboard which can be folded right over so that whne fully oppened the keyboard is on the back of the machine and diabled - in this mode the touch screen will have handwriting recognition and will function with a stylus. Alternatively fold the screen back to the upright position and use it with a touchpad and keyboard in the normal way.

The machine will have a low power useage based on a slightly beefed up Atom processor. It will feature a tough lighweight carbon fiber shell and maybe solar panels on the outside so that it can be recharged by sunlight in situations where no mains power is available.

2 x USB and 1 x Firewire ports should be provided as standard. WIFI and LAN ports are standard with optional GPS and 3G

The netbook should come loaded with a non windows (and therfore reliable and secure) OS (prefereably mac osx although ubuntu would also be acceptable). WINDOWS WOULD NOT be offered although a drivers disk would be supplied so that anyone could put the operating system on it if they really were that way inclined! The machine should however feature a windows emulator allowing use of any windows based BUSINESS SOFTWARE programmes so use of windows itself should not be necessary.

The machine will be completely optimised for SERIOUS CREATIVE SOFTWARE and business apps, video and audio editings, graphics & drawing, word processing and publishing. No effort would be made in the pursuit of games comaptibility or performance. The optimisation would be towards more serious creative software. This is a machine for doing and making things NOT for wasting time playing games.

I see this machine as an electronic replacement for the artists sketch pad, writers notebook, video makers editing workstation or composers manuscript book. It will be highly portable - small and light enough to slip into a large pocket or handbag so that it is there whenever inspiration strikes.

It will also have a large solid state disk - at least 40GB so that it has enough capacity to capture and store all my inspirations. Battery life will be at least 4 hours!
