NOTEBOOK PC : IDEA
Customized
Posted in notebook | November 28, 2008 3amStandardized motherboards that would fit into several different sizes and types of chassis. You could have a 14.1in up to a 20in screens with different types of keyboards, trackpads, resolutions. They key would be a standard motherboard that would fit into each one. Motherboard would have user replaceable parts such as the CPU, GPU, RAM. This would allow the user to purchase different chassis for different agendas and be able to swap out parts when necessary much like we do with desktops today.
Each chassis would come with cooling designed for that chassis with connecting points to the standard motherboard's chips. When a new motherboard comes out, users would be able to buy the new motherboard with upgraded cooling to fit the chassis they already have and the new motherboard. -

Ultimate Customizing
Posted in notebook | November 28, 2008 3amCustomized your computer to what you want. Standardized motherboard with top-end hardware. Includes MXM socket on all motherboards for GPU selection. GPUs range from all available ATi and Nvidia's giving the user choice for the first time ever.
This would require a standardized cooling system that would come with each chasis, but would have the same basic shape to cover the standard motherboard's chip. This would include a 14.1 in laptop with a dedicated GPU.
Users would need to know that the smaller setups would not have the same cooling ability as the larger setups, however with smart GPUs able to downclock when they start to overheat, I don't think this would be a problem.
This would finally give users more choices then just RAM and CPU. The user would be able to order the parts separately and be able to upgrade as they see fit. New CPU when they want. Upgrade to new motherboard. Upgrade GPU. User could originally buy 17in chassis and decide that they need the 14.1 in for better travel. All internal hardware would fit and system would recognize the new chassis.
