NETBOOK PC : DREAM
MyDuino
Posted in netbook | November 1, 2008 1amThe purpose of this device is to democratize computational power. When a job needs to be done, that does not truly require a human operator, let that person script the job into an inexpensive, deployable device. It has a very simple interface (not a full keyboard or mouse) for field use, but can connect with a stationary PC. MyDuinos can discover one another, if so programmed, and collaborate by pooling resources and combining data. A MyDuino that is left to its own devices should operate reliably until its power runs down- at which point it will notify its operator, which may be human or just another MyDuino.
MyDuino does not "do" Windows or anything else- its interface is its graphical scripting language. computationally it is capable of running the most complex program that could be stored in its scrap of memory and fast enough to respond to drastic changes in its input. It will enable people who cannot afford a PC, and who honestly don't need one, to benefit from society's technological progress. It does not force a nomadic tribesman user to contemplate "Emptying the Recycle Bin".
It is not an Alienware PC because those are ridiculous. It is not an OLPC because it is meant to be left alone. It is not an Arduino because it does not rely on a computer. It is definitely not a "Netbook", because a MyDuino should be able to outlast the term "Netbook", as well as the terms "PC", "Intel" and "ASUS". (Maybe not "Intel".) It's something like a beefed-up Lego Mindstorms NXT. And it's ubiquitous.
..."Power's out. So's the Internet."
"Are the MyDuinos still working?"
"Do you have to ask?"
You probably won't be making this. Let me know if you do.
