NETBOOK PC : DREAM
The Net
Posted in netbook | November 6, 2008 12pmKinetic Charging - while on the move to increase battery lifespan.
Always On - so it can remain up to date, collect emails, news, remind you of appointments tied to your email client etc. While on the move, usable as "skype" style phone via a suitable bluetooth headset.
Completely Mobile - Able to utilize existing and near future Wireless Networks and also to have a built in Mobile Modem with it's own Sim Card to utilize mobile networks (3G / GPRS) that can also be used to report it's own location should it ever be stolen or lost.
Resizeable Screen - that uses the "lcd paper" style technology making for a harder to damage flexible screen. A larger working area would be available by "stretching" the screen out when needed and could also be made touch sensitive and able to wrap over the underside of the netbook for a firm touchable surface. Making use of the "lcd paper" style screen would also lower power requirements and enable maps or directions to be stored and shown during transit.
Resilient - Durable and water resistent chassis in case it is dropped, gets caught in the rain coupled with SSD/Flash Ram devices to reduce moving parts, increase battery life and safeguard data. -

Truly Noteworthy
Posted in notebook | November 6, 2008 12pmKinetic Charging - while on the move to increase battery lifespan.
Intelligent Biometrics - to provide not only a Secure method to Login but also uses this as the encryption key for data stored on the device to make it virtually impossible for anyone but the owner to access the data.
Completely Mobile - Able to utilize existing and near future Wireless Networks and also to have a built in Mobile Modem with it's own Sim Card to utilize mobile networks (3G / GPRS) that can also be used to report it's own location should it ever be stolen or lost.
Intelligent Self Repair Software (bios based?) to keep it running as efficiently as possible, keep itself up to date and repair OS in case of failure without any loss of data or settings.
Upgradable Graphics - compartment using a slot style card in much the same way that existing notebooks utilise a pcmcia slot for expandability to provide a more modular way to expand/upgrade and provide a greater sense of puture proofing. -

Game On
Posted in notebook | November 6, 2008 12pmDisplay Support - Able to support multiple external displays via "Display Port" technologies to monitors and projectors in addition to HDTV support. Native support for both SLi and Crossfire graphics cards (as now possible with Intel's X58 chipset)
Keep it Cool, Keep it Quiet - High Performance doesn't need to have a high noise requirement, so passive cooling should be incorporated in to the case to maximum effect, although liquid metal seems to be the new approach to a cool cpu [see danamics.com]. The case itself also provides a large surface area so why not make the most of it?
Out of the movies - Lets see a gaming rig that looks like it's only something you would see in a futuristic movie! With PC peripherals never needing to be connected with a cable, that are self charging via a "charging mat" or able to make use of the users interaction and kinetic energy to become "self charging", all communication should be securely encrypted.
Instant Play - Let me switch on and play my games instantly, without the overhead of the OS.
Intelligent Self Repair Software (bios based?) to keep it running as efficiently as possible, keep itself up to date and repair OS in case of failure without any loss of data or settings. -
GAMER PC : DREAM
Multimedia PC
Posted in gamer | November 6, 2008 12pmNot a Gamer PC, but a Multimedia PC, as this is a sorely neglected option.
Multi-User support - Able to be used by more than one user simultaneously via multiple peripherals and display devices, so if one person is surfing the web, another could work on a word document while another checks their email.
Multi-Dock support - Built in support for mobile devices like smart phones, pda's and media players (ipod, zune etc) that can be docked directly with the PC and can use the PC's display(s) and/or audio system for output, auto-sync and re-charge as needed.
Keep it covered - Let's keep it simple and keep it tidy, get rid of the unsightly holes and dust collectors on the front of a multimedia system, why not use "smart covers" or "smart slots" that keep those sockets out of sight until they are needed without the need for clumsy pull down covers.
Hidden Extras - Don't give us the bare minimum connectivity or limit our expandability options, give us more than we need. It's better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it.
Instant On - for Music, DVD's, CD's, TV, etc and able to power up the PC if needed without interrupting the current action. Keep it responsive and minimise waiting around to simply use it, keep it functional.
Keep it Quiet - let's keep it so quiet you don't even know it's on until you look!
Non-Technical Upgrades - Suitable for the novice user wishing to add additional storage, upgrade graphics card etc, able to upgrade without opening the case. Keep it simple and make it a seemless experience for the end user.
