    GAMER PC : DREAM

    Social Butterfly
    Posted in gamer | December 18, 2009 12am

This system includes a high-speed system-to-system interconnect. it's available as a notebook, netbook, and gaming system, and the interface specification is open and well documented. the concept is that any two Social Butterfly systems can be set next to each other, and a special cable (included with each system) can be used to connect the systems, and then they act as a single, more capable computer, sharing such resources as screen realestate, CPU Cycles, Memory, and RAM. Conversely if both systems are turned on prior to connecting, they instead act as two computers on a high speed low latency peer to peer network for playing networked games together.

All of these features should be designed to work with linux and windows, with open documented interfaces where available.

Longer Interconnect cords should be available, as well as High Speed Switches from the asus website and other retailers at a price which makes them available to consumers as basic accessories no more expensive than a new printer or usb cable.

    NETBOOK PC : DREAM

    Vault Traveller
    Posted in netbook | October 18, 2009 2am

On the inside, three 12.5mm 2.5" SATA harddrives provide 1.5 tb of raw storage space. the 2gb of ram allow the opensolaris operating system to manage the zfs pool providing 1tb of raid-z backed space with absolute reliability. Using patented Bash Scripting technology, and the ACPI event driven interface in conjunction with the cron scheduling daemon, ZFS will initiate a scrub every time you plug in your Vault Traveller for the night ensuring absolute data integrity.

The rugged (kevlar or carbon fiber over rubber) exterior protects your system from bumps, drops, dings, dents, and other harsh environments. the water resistant seals around the chassis provide protection from splashes, pools, tsunamis, and apocalypses. Internal rubber risers protect the internal drives from drops, falls, and automobile accidents. the all carbon nanotube sub-chassis protects the screeen (while closed) and the drives from kicks, throws, gunshots, meteor strikes, and apocolypses.

Once the simple clamshell case is opened, the inside provides a moderate 8.9" display at 1024x600 resultion. the keyboard is supplemented by a simple biometric authentication device which can be used to provide system authentication and unlock the three builtin AES hardware cryptographic devices that are connected to the drives to ensure data safety. Underneath the keyboard, accessible via the removal of a single screw are the three hardware crypto nodes. they can be removed, swapped, and replaced at will, but the drives associated with them can only be read by the respective chips without data loss. The AES chips can be bought from the asus store for the low price of $5.99 each, and can come blank, or with secure 1024-8192 bit keys preinstalled. once written (through a simple interface) the secure key can not be read from the device or copied ensuring that noone can attain access to your devices except you. for critical data reliability, the same key can be written to multiple keys or saved to a special master vault (available at an extra price) for later retrieval in the event of an AES chip failure.

opposite the biometric device is a smart card port to provide a second means of secure access.

across the top panel are status indicator lights for each of the wifi, 3g, and gigabit ethernet (controlled by hardware) and access and health indicators for each of the three disks. the obvious lack of firewire, optical drive, USB, the protected net boot code, and mandatory smart card authentication to access the EFI pre-boot environment to change or view system configuration ensures that only your authorized software can access your precious data, and only when and how you authorize it to do so.

    Designed for four use cases:
The corporate. Needs to have large amounts of secret data with them on the run, can never let it escape them.

The college student. carrying a netbook in their backpack e verywhere they go, when they forget it's there and drop their sack on the ground in the cafeteria, the armor and chassis will protect their precious school work.

The Conspiracy Theorist. Always knowing someone is watching them, but never knowing the right who, they must ensure that their evidence is securely locked away where none can tamper with it.

Portable Mass Storage. Sometimes you just want to keep everything you have with you wherever you go, and have it always be there.

To meet the needs of all these markets, this rugged runner should have a capable processor, 2GB of ram, Access Point Mode, and a corporate class long term support warranty backing it at the afordable price of 599.97 MSRP.

    NETBOOK PC : IDEA

    Dual Boot
    Posted in netbook | October 18, 2009 1am

Ship your products with a fully integrated dual boot experience.

The boot proces should include a linux running grub2 as the boot loader with an asus-designed custom grub splash screen and an integrated, open source solution for both windows and linux that allows the user to specify which operating system to boot at next startup without having to use the menu at boot time, based around grub's built in support for saving the last choice made.

the disk should be partitioned into three partitions. First, a small partition for windows. Linux should be installed in the second partition.
the third partition should be configured with a users folder, a programs folder, etc. where windows and linux users share home directories, and large programs for each are installed by default. the filesystem of this shared folder should be chosen carefully to privide decent interoperability and a feature set available to both OSs.

the restore disk should have an option to restore either OS or Both, with or without wiping the shared data partition.

Finally, all linux drivers should be provided open source so as to make installation of the user's choice of linux distro a simple task.

The rationale is that Linux provides a clean, speedy, responsive environment even under heavier loads for most tasks such as multimedia, web browsing, etc., whereas windows provides application compatibility with a majority of apps that the user may want, including casual games, and various proprietary productivity suites.

    Full Screen Mode
    Posted in gamer | October 18, 2009 12am

an edge to edge, top to bottom display utilizing a frame with a width of no more than 1cm on each side except the hinge side with antennae located spread out around the area behind the display and no webcam or microphone located in the display portion. this concept is applicable to standard notebooks, gaming PCs, as well as netbooks and convertible tablets.
