FORUM FEEDBACK PC : DISCUSSION
Should ASUS consider letting WEPC participants beta test their new designs?
Posted in Forum Feedback | October 2, 2009 11pmThe question is pretty straightforward. A lot of the participants in these discussions have given their own opinions regarding what they would want to see in ASUS' products in the next 2-5 years or so. I think that places them in a better position to assess and see for themselves how the designs of ASUS' new computers are coming along. The Palm Pre did this for their product (but it was already the late stage pre-release), maybe they should too or at least lift the veils a little bit and give some participants a sneak peek and involve them more in the design process. What do you think?

Just Curious
Posted in Forum Feedback | September 17, 2009 2amGood day to all,
I'm just curious about the status of the previous finalist entries and whether or not these new questions on the discussion board are actually linked to that previous activity. If so, does this mean that you're actually focusing on these features? Because I see a lot of familiar ones out there being discussed.
I must say that it's been great discussing these topics and passing ideas around in this site. For one thing, I'm excited about what the finished product or products might be and to be able to see if what we've been discussing here actually comes to fruition. Personally, I'd like to see other companies take the same initiative to see what consumers actually want.
Keep it up. -

Are We On Our Way Towards Multiple User Interfaces?
Posted in Open Topic | May 16, 2009 2pmImagine a Computer (a netbook, laptop or desktop) that, aside from having just a keyboard and mouse, would respond to a multitude of inputs from its user -- whether it be via touchscreen, pen/tablet, gesture, voice command, or gamepad. While having a cup of joe at your favorite coffee shop, you would be typing away at your netbook keyboard trying to finish a report that was due but at the same time asking the computer via voice command to place a call to your consultant for some advice. While having a discussion with him (he has the same device) his screen flashes the report as you are typing it and he is able to make corrections by marking your work on his screen with a pen stylus. Just then, a second caller appears on the screen as call waiting, identified only as "your loving wife" with a sent SMS asking whether you'll be able to pick her up from the spa. You then make a gesture to reject the call and another gesture to pick one of your generic SMS texts:"Important call, will get back to you". She hangs up (a bit irate) but sends you the location of the spa nevertheless. When you finish with the consultant, you go to your car and dock your netbook on the dash and it automatically updates the GPS and starts to play your favorite playlist but also reminds you to pick up the laundry and a boquet of flowers... "don't forget: anniversary -- dinner at 8pm". When you get home, you dock the computer in the living room and you select one of the preset ambience/mood settings on the screen. You select romantic. The lights dim, and the amplifier --also wirelessly docked with your netbook -- plays the selection from your own mood music.
Achievable? Or far from it? What do you think? -

Pocket Netbook - Eee Go Multiple Docking System
Posted in netbook | April 4, 2009 10amExpanding on the topic of multipurpose docking systems.>> This concept attempts to visualize the versatility of a multiple docking concept.
1) Car Dock- this gives you full control of your car's engine management system (I used AEM's basic module to illustrate). This also hooks up to your car stereo and acts as your car's multimedia player (voice command is an option)
2) Living Room/ Home Theater Dock. This may connect wirelessly to a base controller (the gray unit on the table) which controls your home theater and environment with several IR or RF modules that can be attached to light dimmers, mechanized curtains, amplifier and surround conditions.
3) Gamer dock - a portable unit with an extra battery and a GPU or graphics booster chip with gamepad buttons/ controls.
All ports reside on the docks themselves depending on which type of dock it is (such as USB3, i400, s-video, hdmi and IR or RF sending units). The basic unit connects to the docks via a sturdy docking collar hidden by a sliding panel on the back (although i'd still prefer it to be wireless)
