NOTEBOOK PC : IDEA
No trackpad Laptop
Posted in notebook | February 15, 2009 10pmThis is an idea that I may have not seen (maybe it's there already, but I really have never seen this and I wonder why this was never implemented).
I don't know ANYBODY who really likes the trackpad on laptops, they're horrible, unresponsive and just annoying.
The basic idea here is to remove the trackpad (reducir by around 25% the size of the base) and including a detachable wireless optical mouse on the base or just have it slide off of the side of the laptop. The receiver can be built in or it could use a bluetooth mini dongle on an usb port.
If you don't want to always use the USB port, then the receiver should just remain somewhere inside the laptop (being RF instead of Bluetooth).
I hope to see this idea sometime in a notebook, i'd surely go for it, regarding the size optimization by the removal of the trackpad..
Oh, and if the mouse is detachable from the keyboard side then the hole that it would leave could have some use, like a fingerprint reader or just more USB ports. (The mouse should have an in-built battery that gets recharged when placing it back in its base).
If this doesn't seem like a good idea, then another thing I'd like to suggest is making the trackpads sensitive to metal pens like PDA devices use, so as to work like a writing tablet (naturally, the pen should be included with the laptop).
