    NOTEBOOK PC : DREAM

    Powerful and portable
    Posted in notebook | January 9, 2009 1pm

Current parts (can be updated as new tech comes out):

CPU: Intel C2D P9600 2.67GHz 6MB 1067MHz 25W (top of the line, medium voltage processor, 10x multiplier! underclocking half multipliers doesn't work as well)
MB: Intel GM47 Chipset w/ Intel Wireless 5350 WiMaX (Centrino 2 vPro platform)
    RAM: up to 2x4GB DDR3-1333 CL7 SODIMM
HD: 64GB Intel X25-E 240/170 MB/s R/W + optional 500GB Seagate 7200RPM in optical drive bay (when not using optical drive)
    GPU: Switchable GMA X4500MHD + ATI HD 4670 512MB GDDR3

Notebook body (just update specifications as things like USB3.0 are finalized):

    - 14.1" WXGA+ 1440x900 w/ LED backlight, 80%+ RGB color gamut, 500+:1 contrast, 300+cd/m2 brightness (for outdoor use), edge-to-edge display w/ thin bezel on top for 2+ MP webcam, glossy and option for anti-glare coating (for outdoor use) and/or privacy shade
    - Tablet w/ N-trig capacitive multitouch (active/passive digitizer, like Dell Latitude XT), strong, single, rotating hinge
    - UEFI instead of BIOS w/ power optimized, Linux based, instant on OS (Apple and some MSI use UEFI, Asus and several other companies have IOS)
    - Efficient cooling system using laminar air flow (like Intel's design for HP/Voodoo Envy 133)
    - Premium carbon fiber case w/ rounded edges and non-glossy coat lid, 5.0 lbs (semirugged and protected like HP Elitebook series)
    - Dual magnetic latch, black rubberized grips w/ spring rubber adjustable height
    - Backlit spillproof elastic-reaction (low flex) keyboard (HP Elitebook has a layer that makes the keyboard more durable)
    - Music player (non-OS), volume control knob (front)
    - Programmable scrolling trackpad, back button, touchpad one-touch disable
    - Thin magnesium roll cage to protect screen and inner components (like Lenovo)
    - FIPS fingerprint reader, Trusted Platform Module (TPM 1.2 rev. 103), face recognition w/ webcam
    - Built-in Gigabit LAN, 3.5G WWAN, Bluetooth V2.1+EDR, consumer IR, GPS
    - Bluetooth remote control (possibly store in ExpressCard/54 slot)
    - 130W Magsafe slim auto/air/AC power adapter w/ 3 prong (for grounding, thin adapter like Lenovo thin adapter)
    - 6 cell primary (~6 hrs) or 9 cell primary (extends tastefully out the back, ~9 hrs), optional 12 cell slice (~12 hrs)
    - Removable Blu-Ray recorder slim slot load w/ slide in container for storing the optical drive and the cover can fit into the notebook, also enough height clearance to support a 2nd 2.5" HD
    - HDMI 1.3c, DisplayPort 1.2, 4x USB3.0/UWB1.1 (Sleep/Charge), FW3200, eSATAp (can integrate with USB is necessary for space constraints)
    - 10-in-1 Contactless Smart Card reader, ExpressCard/54 slot (side)
    - 2 headphone jacks, 1 microphone jack (side)
    - optional TV tuner and DVB-T wireless digital (rear)
    - 4 Dolby Surround certified speakers, 1 subwoofer, 2 Akustica AKU2103 HD mic

I know not all of these are feasible (ie. Magsafe and Apple patent), but something similar would be welcome as getting your laptop pulled off the table if someone accidentally kicks the power cord is annoying.

As a medical student, I would like a light tablet with a bigger screen (typical tablets are only 12.1") so that I can walk around the hospital and can compare different pages of a patient's chart.

At home, I would use this in its notebook form and have the option of having powerful graphics for the occasional game or connecting to a digital TV.

Please let me know if there are any changes or additions that you think would be beneficial to have.
