Dream PC Description

1280x640 resolution, 9inch, 2:1 ratio LCD screen. By adopting a 2:1 ratio widescreen LCD allows this 9inch netbook to have the same width keyboard as a premium 10inch netbook.

The sub 1kg netbooks seem to have very small trackpads due to space constraints. By using a mouse pointer instead of a trackpad it allows the netbook to be shorter in depth and thus lighter.

When open the keyboard would fill the entire netbook. The left and right mouse button would be under the spacebar, with the mouse pointer below the G and H key.

This netbook would be an excellent compromise between keyboard size and portability. The Wider horizontal screen resolution is arguably more valuable when it comes to most netbook tasks.

Cheers!

I'd also prefer a smaller overall computer, but we definitely need a real keyboard. A thumbpad is USELESS. I wrote it up this way:

9" is too long maybe 8" to 7" would be pocketable and provide enough length for a good keyboard.

I wish the computer could be smaller, yet still give me room to type. I'd opt for an expanding keyboard on a smaller device. But your idea seems like the most easy to adopt, and a simple way to make a big improvement.

use a ROBUST OS eg Linux; Symbian (like the Psion netBook); SSD storage; like the idea of trackpoint or stylus/touch to open progs; hughlight text etc

I would prefer it be a 7521; meaning that it was 7.5" wide. The problem to me is if you go wider than 7.5, it is too wide to fit in a jacket pocket. If it is too wide you then will need a bag to carry it and at that point why not carry a larger computer. I like the ideal of long and narrow as I think the ideal mobile size would be 7.5" x 4" x 1".
