Todays netbooks are functionally fine with the current hardware and specifications. The only thing that is really missing is the tablet feature. What I think is the next step is to make it all slim and minimalistic. Features (other than standard netbook): o Screen: 8.9-10 inches LED backlit Rotating screen (a la Tablet-PC) 1280x768 resolution (1024x600 optional) Minimal screen bezel Matt (non-glossy) o Slim form factor - less than 1" thick - battery doesn't stand out o Keyboard with normal right shift key (see HP Mini 1000) o Quick-keys on the screen bezel (close to hinge) for rotating etc. - These can be modified by the user. o Matt black finish o 3G not locked - any USIM can be installed All this for a price just over the normal netbook (USD $500-$600)
Hey, you almost described my Gateway CX2610 that I've had for over 3 years. I agree, it rocks. Unfortunately it cost a bit more that $600. A new netbook version of this would be tremendously useful. Isn't one of the versions of the OLPC like this?
You can use it anywhere, 3G for networking, GPS for localization, and solar panel to charge the battery. Ambient light sensor to automatically set optimal screen brightness.
And you can use old hardware with the serial port. And you have 8 USB ports, 2 Firewire ports, HDMI Port, E-Sata port, fingerprint reader, TV tuner and a MemoryStick Pro card reader.)

Using all open-source hardware and software, this PC would be able to run any OS - really, ANY. It would have open-source drivers for all of its devices and only use devices from companies which provi...
The m912 fits the bill (mostly) and cost me $600 usd shipped (read imported as its UK only) I love the little netbook.
ASUS Note Books is the one of the bests Note Books in the world.Hard use Note Book.

Yeah, I think one of the OLPC ones is a tablet version. It looks crap though :)

EdMercer - There is the Gigabyte M912 which retails for around $900 I think, but it's pretty thick and has a thick screen bezel.
Joshua - Like a netbook version of a Latitude XP with a 8.9" screen and a smaller price tag :)
I'd really love a tablet @ netbook price point. Almost buying/installing touch add-on to my Eee PC.
Sounds like a dell latitude XT?
