Half-Life: Alyx System Requirements

Can I Run Half-Life: Alyx?

If you are a fan of the Half-Life series and you are looking to break into the world of VR, then Half-Life: Alyx will be ideal. However, with a game like this, you need to know one important thing – can you run it?

If this is your first experience with VR, you want it to be a good one and for that, you need a PC that can deliver the kind of performance you want. Figuring out whether you can run this or any other title is pretty straightforward. You need to take a look at your specs, which we have a handy guide on, and then simply compare them to the specifications listed below.

This is about to get even easier though with our work in progress tool. We’re developing a tool that will let you automatically check whether your PC can run a game. We’ll let you know more as development progresses.

Half-Life: Alyx Game Details

  • Release date: Unknown
  • System Requirements: Unknown
  • Genre: Unknown
  • Developer: Valve Corporation
  • Publisher: Valve Corporation

Not much information is available yet, but we know the game will make use of virtual reality elements which will introduce some interesting gameplay.

It looks like this game will follow events taking place from the perspective of Alyx Vance, who has appeared in the series before as a close ally of Half-Life 2 protagonist Gordon Freeman.

We expect there to be plenty of interesting puzzle elements which will offer something a bit different this time around with the VR addition.

The only detail we have now is from a Source 2 leak which appears to point towards a control system labeled “Grabbity Gloves” in the codebase. With a series that seems like gravity-based puzzles and a famed gravity gun, we can expect more gravity-based gameplay and puzzles.

We expect to find out more information in the upcoming days, we’ll make sure to update this page accordingly!

Optimal Hardware Suggestions

Without knowing the exact specification of this title it’s difficult to make suggestions on hardware. The predicted recommended settings are fairly high for this title and that’s mainly down to the fact that it’s a fully VR game. As we still don’t know the genre of the game, the amount of action or varying landscapes your system will have to handle may be tough to run.

The Half-Life franchise is one that has covered a wide range of environments in the past and given players a range of ways to traverse them. Saying this, we expect to see some impressive vistas in this upcoming title, only time will tell though. For now, if you’re looking to upgrade your system anyway, a VR ready system would be a great idea.

What Gaming PC Do We Recommend?

Going purely off the predicted requirements, we’d recommend a system that would at least hit the recommended. As this is a VR title, you’ll definitely want a system that runs your VR headset of choice as smoothly as possible.

  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 3600
  • RAM: 16 GB
  • GPU: MSI Gaming GeForce RTX 2080 Super 8GB

If you’re looking for something suitable to upgrade to, or just want to build something fresh, we have a number of great high-end VR suitable builds for you to look at. A high-end build bordering just under $1500 will run VR seamlessly, and very likely to run Half-Life Alyx at its highest settings on release.
