God of War (2018) is a phenomenal triple-A title that was titled the 2018 Game of the Year. The game is set in the world of Norse mythology, far away from Greece, and follows the adventures of an older Kratos and his son Atreus. Today, we’re looking at the best CPU for God of War.

God of War 2018 is held in high regard for its immersive storytelling, unique gameplay, and stunning visuals. Even though the game is relatively well-optimized, you do need a powerful processor to run it seamlessly.

What are God of War’s CPU requirements?

Santa Monica studios recommend you equip yourself with the Intel i5-6600k, the AMD Ryzen 5 2400G, or something better. Both of these processors are quad-cores. The Ryzen 5 2400G does have multithreading, though, so it has 8 threads. Both processors have a maximum clock speed of 3.9GHz. 

While the Ryzen 5 2400G is able to offer fair performance in God of War, the 6600K struggles to maintain a steady 60FPS in loaded environments and action-packed scenes. Both processors are rather old, so we can’t recommend you go for either. 

It would make the most sense to go for something from the latest CPU generations since newer CPUs tend to offer better performance than their older generations at a similar price, giving you better value for money. 

As you may be able to tell from these specs, the officially recommended processors aren’t all that powerful. Most modern-day CPUs Core and Ryzen processors will be able to run God of War without a problem. 


Best CPU for God of War – Intel Core i5-13600K

We’ve chosen the Intel i5-13600K here. The processor was launched in Q4 2022 and is relatively recent. It features Intel’s hybrid core architecture with 6 multithreaded performance cores capable of boosting up to a 5.1GHz boost clock and 8 smaller, single-threaded efficiency cores that can boost up to a lesser 3.9GHz clock speed.

This means the processor has 14 cores and 20 threads, which is groundbreaking for an i5 processor. The incredible amount of total processing capacity available here means you can pair the 13600K up with some of the strongest GPUs out there and have a perfectly bottleneck-free system. 

The 5.1GHz boost clock isn’t the absolute best you can find in this price segment (that would be the 7600X’s 5.3GHz boost clock), but it is very solid nonetheless. It will allow you to enjoy the game at a high framerate.

60FPS and 144FPS God of War gaming won’t be a problem with the 13600K as long as your GPU is powerful enough to keep up with the processor. 

240FPS isn’t out of the question either, but you would need a 4090 to sustain said FPS at 1080p resolution. The thing is, a 4090 wouldn’t make for a very good pairing with the 13600K. Here are a few of the best GPUs for the i5-13600K.

It’s worth mentioning that unlike many of the i5 processors before it, the 13600K runs very hot due to its high 125-watt default and 181-watt max TDP. 

You’ll need a top-notch air cooler or, preferably, a decent AIO to keep it performing at its best. If you intend to overclock the chip, you will need liquid cooling.
