Set for release on February 28th, the Ryzen 9 7950X3D will feature AMD’s powerful 3D V-cache technology and go head to head with the flagship Core i9-13900KS for the title of the best desktop gaming processor. We can’t wait to compare the two titans. But for now, let’s best RAM for AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D

In this article, we find out; What’s the best RAM for AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D?

Best RAM for AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D: Top picks

Factors to consider when choosing RAM for a Ryzen processor

Here are the primary factors you should consider before purchasing RAM for any processor. In this case, we’re choosing RAM for the 7950X3D, of course.

Compatibility

Of course, you want to make sure what you’re getting is compatible with your processor so you don’t end up with a kit you can’t use. For the Ryzen 9 7950X3D, and with all Ryzen 7000 series Zen 4 processors, you’ll need DDR5 memory. The older but still much more popular DDR4 RAM doesn’t work.

In case you’re interested, here’s more on DDR4 vs. DDR5

Speed

RAM speed is measured in either MHz (clock speed) or MT/s (transfer rate), and both values are almost always the same for any particular stick of RAM. DDR5 memory is currently available in 4400 to 7600MHz.

The big question here is how much of a different RAM speed actually makes. Is it worth going for faster, more expensive RAM, or is the performance difference negligible?

Well, Ryzen processors benefit particularly from having faster RAM. The CPU cores are housed in two separate chiplets on the die, and these chiplets communicate through an interface known as infinity fabric.

The infinity fabric clock speed is tied directly to the clock speed of your RAM, so faster RAM equals better CPU performance even if you ignore the benefits of the faster RAM itself.

AMD considers 6000MHz to be the sweet spot for Ryzen 7000 series processors. For the flagship Ryzne 9 7950X3D, we recommend sticking with 6000MHz and above.

It’s possible to go down to 5200MHz, but that’s suboptimal for performance, and going even further below would be doing an injustice to a processor as powerful as the 7950X3D.

Latency

Latency is the time it takes for your RAM to fetch and deliver data to the CPU upon request. DDR5 memory modules usually have a CAS latency somewhere between 30 and 40 (outliers exist). The CAS latency is simply how many clock cycles it takes for your RAM to produce data, and you want this value to be as low as possible to get the best system performance.

AMD EXPO

AMD EXPO is an all-in-one RAM overclocking solution very similar in nature to Intel’s XMP. It’s not an absolute must if you prefer to not mess around with your computer’s stock settings, but most high-end modules optimized for AMD processors will have it anyway. If nothing else, it can serve as an indicator that you’re getting something high-quality and suitable for use with Ryzen processors.

If you are a PC enthusiast looking to push your system to the limits, definitely keep an eye out for AMD EXPO.

Best RAM for Ryzen 9 7950X3D

With the above criteria in mind, the RAM we recommend for the Ryzen 9 7950X3D is the G.Skill Trident Z5 NEO RGB

G.Skill Trident Z5 NEO RGB

The G.Skill Trident Z5 is one of the best DDR5 kits available for Ryzen 7000 series processors, and with its industry-leading frequency and timings, it’s a perfect match for the flagship 7950X3D.

Memory Standard

DDR5

The kit includes two 16GB memory modules, which make available to your processor 32 Gigabytes of lightning-fast, 6000MHz DDR5 memory with CL 32 latency timings.

It’s worth noting that CL latency increases with clock speed, which is why DDR5 has, on average, higher latency than DDR4, and DDR4 than DDR3. Given that the G.Skill Trident operates at a 6600MHz clock speed, the CL32 latency is very impressive.

The RAM modules are equipped with a stylish and effective heat spreader to ensure top-tier performance and aesthetics.

You also get support for AMD EXPO which allows you to fine-tune your RAM settings to best suit the needs of your system. Whether manually, or by letting the software decide what’s best.
