If you want to see high framerates and consistent frame times in demanding games such as the upcoming RE4 remake, you need a processor fast enough to feed your GPU with instructions continuously, without there being a bottleneck. CPU bottlenecks are always painful because they result in annoying stutters and frame drops, so it’s best to avoid them.

Best CPU for the Resident Evil 4 Remake

What are the CPU requirements for Resident Evil 4 Remake?

Capcom recommends an AMD Ryzen 5 3600 / Intel Core i7 8700 for the Resident Evil 4 Remake. They also note that these recommendations are intended for those looking to experience the game at 1080p, 60FPS – and that framerates could drop in graphically intensive scenes.

In other words, you need something a little bit stronger if you’re looking to avoid these occasional frame drops.

The Ryzen 5 3600 and Intel Core i7 8700 are both competent 6-core, 12-thread processors from several years ago. The former has a 4.2GHz and the latter a 4.6GHz clock speed.

These requirements indicate to us that the Resident Evil 4 Remake is going to be fairly demanding on the processor. Going with something entry-level likely won’t suffice if you want a comfortable gaming experience.

Best CPU for Resident Evil 4 Remake – Ryzen 5 7600X

The CPU we’re recommending for the RE4 Remake is the Ryzen 5 7600X. A powerful 6-core, 12-thread gaming processor released in late 2022.

What shines most about the 7600 is its 5.3GHz boost clock speed. Considering you can pick one up today for around ~$230, the single-thread performance offered is truly remarkable.

The 7600X can compare with much beefier and more expensive processors such as the Ryzen 7 7700X, the 7800X, and even the 7900X in single-thread performance.

If you aren’t sure why that’s important – single-thread performance is currently the most reliable indicator of gaming performance.

The 7600X can offer you gaming performance that’s only slightly worse than the best processors out there today for a fraction of the cost, which is saying a lot for this humble Ryzen 5 chip.

For the Resident Evil 4 Remake, you’ll find the Ryzen 5 7600X perfect. The chip is plenty stronger than the dev-recommended Ryzen 5 3600 or i7-8700, so running a steady 60FPS with consistent frame times and zero lag spikes won’t be a problem for it, even in the more action-packed scenarios.

Running higher framerates, such as 120FPS if the game’s engine allows it, will also be possible as long as you pair this processor up with an equally powerful GPU

The RTX 3000 and RX 7000 series GPUs make for excellent pairings with the 7600X. At 4K resolution, it’s even possible to run an RTX 4090 without a CPU bottleneck

Do note that you’ll need a decent aftermarket cooler for the 7600X since it has a moderate 105-watt TDP.
