The tried and true starter weapon for any zombie game is always the handgun. Resident Evil 4 Remake is no different as you normally start the game with Leon’s own trusty handgun.

However, there are more options that you will come across as you play through RE4R. Leaving you with plenty of choices for your holdout weapon when all else fails. Let’s go over every handgun available in the Resident Evil 4 Remake.

Every Handgun Available in The Resident Evil 4 Remake

While a handgun might not be your first option to use in a fight, it can be surprisingly reliable when you do have to use it. Decent accuracy and an alright rate of fire are all you need when you can just stun zombies for damage.

They are also quite useful for shooting out targets for your requests, like the Grave Robber request. let’s go over the full list of pistols you can get in RE4R.

SG-09

This is the starter pistol that you get in Resident Evil 4 Remake. It is an all-around solid weapon with a decent magazine size, damage, fire rate, and accuracy.

The special trick with this pistol is to fully upgrade it or spend an Exclusive Upgrade Ticket on it. This will increase the critical damage the SG-09 does by a lot making it quite a useful tool on even harder difficulties.

Punisher

This is the weakest of all the pistols in the game despite being one that you need to spend Spinels from the Blue Medallions request to get. It makes up for the weak firepower by being quite accurate and having a high rate of fire.

If you manage to upgrade this all the way or spend an upgrade ticket on it, you will gain the ability to penetrate through enemies with each shot. The bullet will go through up to five enemies before stopping.

Red9

Fans of the original Resident Evil 4 will be very familiar with this broomhandle pistol. It is just as useful in the remake as it was in the original, making it a must-have for any playthrough.

You will need to get to chapter 4 and have access to the boat to get this handgun. You will want to drive the boat to the middle of the lake and search the shipwreck there for a chest. the chest will contain the Red9 inside.

With the Red9 fully upgraded, it will add a 1.5x multiplier to the damage you do with the weapon. Making it one of the strongest weapons in the game to take handgun ammo.

Blacktail

By the time you reach chapter 7 in RE4R, your handguns will need an upgrade. This is where the Blacktail comes in. This handgun is the second most powerful pistol-class weapon you can get in the game. All you need to do to get it is buy it from the merchant in the castle.

To add a cherry on top of the already high damage that the weapon does, you can add a 1.5 multiplayer onto the damage it does by fully upgrading it. making this a great weapon to fall back on if you run out of ammo for the Handcannon.

Matilda

For the final chapters of the game, we get a blast from the past with Matilda. Fans will remember this as Leon’s starting weapon in the Resident Evil 2 Remake. It finally makes its return home during chapter 8 at the cost of 10 Spinels.

While this is not the most powerful of pistols for the final acts, it does come with the unique trait of being able to fire in a three-shot burst with the stock upgrade attached to it. Combine this with the double ammo capacity upgrade it receives when fully upgraded and you have quite an interesting weapon.

It won’t be one-shotting any bosses anytime soon, but what it lacks in power it makes up for in fire rate.
