As a multiplayer game, the question comes up again and again, and what gamers would really like to know is — can you play split screen on Back 4 Blood? It’s a game built around the idea of teaming up with your human pals to fend off wave after wave of nightmarish undead creatures called The Ridden, so you’d expect that yes, you could, but sadly, the answer is disappointing.

While the game is multiplayer, and is even crossplay between Windows PC, Xbox and PlayStation, you can’t do split screen play with your friends. We assume that’s because the game is rather pretty, and would struggle with putting that many zombies on screen from multiple viewpoints.

It’s a bit sad that the mode wasn’t included at launch, as Left 4 Dead was one of the best couch co-op experiences of its day. The only option for playing in-the-same-room multiplayer on Back 4 Blood at the moment is to set up four machines on four screens. It’s not ideal.

Will Back 4 Blood split screen be added in later?

When they explained that there would be no local split screen, Turtle Rock said that “We would love to support split-screen but right now it is, unfortunately, something that will not be available at launch.”

That has caused some hope that the feature will be added later on, although nothing has ultimately been confirmed since.

What do you think of Back 4 Blood? Would you be playing it more if it had split-screen, or do you just play online anyway? Let us know in the comments section below.
