How to unlock all characters in Back 4 Blood?

When you start the game, you'll only have access to four of the characters. Here's how to get the rest!

So you’ve finally gotten your hands on Turtle Studios’ Back 4 Blood? Only to then find out that 4 out of 8 of the playable characters are locked off. No doubt, for a moment, you were worried that they may be locked behind a paywall. That’s the kind of industry the gaming one has become, afterall? But no, don’t worry. In fact, unlocking the different ‘cleaners’ is easy to do, no money involved.

The main cast are comprised of Evangelo, Walker, Holly, Mom, Doc, Hoffman, Jim and Karlee. They’re dubbed ‘Cleaners’ and upon staring the game, you only have access to the first four. In order to unlock the latter four, all you need to do is finish the first four stages of Act 1.

Four chapters makes up Act 1, each with a different number of missions each. What you’ll be focusing on – to unlock the rest of the Cleaners – is The Devil’s Run mission. The Devil’s Run is split up into these different stages:

• Resurgence
• Tunnel of Blood
• Pain Train
• The Crossing

Once these have all been completed, you’ll get a proper look at Doc, Hoffman, Jim and Karlee in a cutscene.

The Back 4 Blood Cleaners

Each character has their own special abilities, which will suit different players. It’s worth giving them all a try and seeing who you mow zombies down best with!

Evangelo

• Evangelo can quickly break out of grabs once every 60 seconds
• +25 percent stamina regeneration
• Team effects: +5 percent team move speed

Walker

• Precision kills grant Walker +20 percent accuracy for 5 seconds
• +10 percent damage
• Team effects: +10 team health

Holly

• Holly recovers 10 stamina when she kills a Ridden
• +10 percent damage resistance
• Team effects: +25 team stamina

Mom

• Mom can instantly revive a teammate once per level
• +1 support inventory
• Team effects: +1 team extra life

Doc

• Doc can heal each teammate for 25 health once per level
• +20 percent healing efficiency
• Team effects: +25 percent team trauma resistance

Hoffman

• Hoffman has a chance to find ammo whenever he kills a Ridden
• +1 offensive inventory
• Team effects: +10 percent max team ammo capacity

Jim

• Precision kills grant Jim 2.5 percent stacking damage until he’s hurt
• +25 percent aim down sights speed
• Team effects: +10 percent team weakspot damage

Karlee

• Karlee can sense nearby hazards and mutations
• +1 quick inventory
• Team effects: +50 percent team use speed
