Ah, the beloved Season Pass. Every game worth its salt has one these days. It’s a surefire way to get players addicted to a game as they try to complete levels in order to get hold of extra cosmetics and gun skins and the like.

There’s no denying how popular they are as well as what a great money-spinner for a publisher. The problem is that it is sometimes difficult to retain a player’s interest over multiple seasons. Interest wains, new games catch the eye and player bases dwindle.

The Year 1 Pass for Battlefield 2042 is an attempt to mitigate that issues by attempting to persuade players to wed themselves to the game for a whole calendar year. 365 days of Battlefield. If that sounds like a good idea to you then great. If you are one of those players who will purchase a season pass every time then this is definitely for you.

What does the Battlefield 2042 Year 1 Pass contain?

• 4 New Specialists (1 per Season of the Year 1 Pass)
• 4 Battle Passes (1 per Season of the Year 1 Pass)

So from this, we can already tell it looks like there are four seasons planned in the year for Battlefield 2042 and you will get access to all of those, including the new specialists without having to fork out on a regular basis. This is going to very much depend on each individual player as to whether they think they will benefit from this. In our opinion, if you are going to drift away from a game anyway, the chances aren’t reduced just because you paid upfront for a year-long battle pass eight months ago.

We are going to have to see how this tactic players out and what kind of savings are to be made for paying for the lot up front. We’d probably prefer to see some extra incentives for that level of loyalty for a full year but at this stage we have what we are being given.
