Battlefield 2042 is the newest entry in the Battlefield franchise. It is a first-person shooter set in the near future. The fields of battle are huge with up to 128 players on a single map.

Does Battlefield 2042 support crossplay? The short answer is Yes. The long answer is that it is not that simple. It is present in the game, but it works a little bit differently than other titles. What it comes down essentially is two different groups of crossplay, and players are able to play only with other players from their group.

First Group:

  • PlayStation 4
  • Xbox One X
  • Xbox One S

Second Group:

  • PlayStation 5
  • Xbox Series X
  • Xbox Series S
  • PC

Players from the old generation are able to play with each other. The same goes for the new generation of consoles with PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S. However, PC players can play with the new generation as well. For example: if you are playing on your Xbox Series S you can play with your friend that is playing on PC and the other that is on PlayStation 5, but you cannot play with your friend who owns PlayStation 4.

The division between generations is most probably caused by hardware limitations. The new generation and PCs are much more powerful. Battlefield 2042 supports games for up to 128 players on the new generation, but the player count on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One X and S is limited to 64 players per game.
