Whether you played the first PS2 Gungrave, or you saw the trailer for Gungrave G.O.R.E at the Tokyo Game Show, it’s certainly a game worth talking about. One thing you might notice right away are the similiarities to both Bayonetta and Devil May Cry. It seems as though this new Gungrave game has been somewhat inspired by the two supernatural adventure games.
Gungrave was first release on PS2 in 2002, it was left there for a while until it got a VR game in 2017. Now, the sequel to the VR game has come in the form of Gungrave G.O.R.E.
The story of Gungrave
The first Gungrave opens thirteen years after Brandon Heat is betrayed and killed by his best friend Harry MacDowell. He is reborn through the use of necrolyzation as Beyond The Grave, and begins a quest of revenge against the crime syndicate. The series then backtracks to Brandon’s youth, and follows him and Harry as they rise through the criminal underworld, detailing the circumstances that led to their eventual falling-out.
Gungrave G.O.R.E plot
As of now, all we know about the plot of the upcoming game is that it’s a sequel to the VR game. In fact, a lot of the game’s own website has been cordoned off, leaving a lot up for speculation.
A familiar designer
One of the main reasons why people think this game looks so familiar to Bayonetta is actually quite obvious. The lead character designer is none other than Ikumi Nakamura of Bayonetta fame!
Ikumi even explained that she used to play Gungrave on the PS2, so was a fan of the game long before Gore was in the works.
She’s already gotten to work and shared some examples of her in-game designs.
Ikumi said that she wants to keep the original theme of the game visible in her designs but also wants to implement her own style into it. And considering Bayonetta’s brilliant creature and character designs, we’re sure her work on Gungrave G.O.R.E will fit right in.
Gungrave G.O.R.E platforms
The game is expected to be released on:
PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X and Series S, Microsoft Windows, Xbox One, PlayStation 5.
Gungrave G.O.R.E release date
