While Microsoft would like people to think that Call of Duty would come to Game Pass immediately after a merger with Activision-Blizzard-King (APK), it wouldn’t be so simple. The fact is that there are deals with Sony that prevent Activision from allowing Call of Duty onto the Game Pass platform.
Due to the release of documents in the block of Microsoft’s merger with APK, we’ve seen the answer to when Call of Duty would come to Game Pass after a merger.
When will Call of Duty come to Game Pass?
Call of Duty was planned to come to Game Pass in 2025.
While the time Call of Duty may come to Game Pass is up in the air, the truth is that Activision likely won’t make a similar deal with Sony now that they’re pushing for a merger too. So we know that the date stated in the documents is the date everyone can expect.
This was revealed on page 400 of the official final report. It basically says the proposed merger would create a benefit for customers in the form of the Call of Duty series arriving on Game Pass in 2025. This would be expected to occur within a reasonable period of time after a merger, which at that point would have been 2023.
While Sony has won this battle, Microsoft and ABK will definitely keep pushing for a merger. As we said before, Activision isn’t likely to offer a deal that would prevent Call of Duty from entering Game Pass, so we most likely won’t see the date change based on contracts.
We may see the date change based on how long it would take to port Call of Duty to Game Pass. Regardless of what side you’re on, the documents reveal that there was a lot of thought and planning in these mergers, and one country saying no won’t put an end to these dealings.
