Activision wrote a press release where they told investors that they were working on a new Call of Duty entry. N4G has written about this before, and it may be the expansion-turned-full game mentioned. This release may be a Modern Warfare 2 expansion-turned-full game.

According to Charlie Intel, Treyarch is not making this next game. This leaves Sledgehammer Games or Raven Software. Raven Software is busy working on Warzone 2.0, so we assume Sledgehammer is leading the charge on this new Call of Duty Experience.

Call of Duty Release in 2024

We assume it will be the Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 expansion that Bloomberg announced. There’s a lot of evidence pointing there, but there could always be a surprise reveal. According to the press release:

“with 2023 plans including even more engaging live services across platforms and the next full annual premium release in the blockbuster series.”

The wordage of “annual premium release” shows us that Activision is not pulling back on making a new Call of Duty every year. Activision has been releasing a new Call of Duty game every year for the past few years, and it looks like this trend will continue. This emphasis on a new release every year has proven to be successful for Activision and has kept gamers interested in the franchise.

Despite the fact that it may sound strange, it is not uncommon for an expansion to become a full game. Assassin’s Creed Freedom Cry, Far Cry Primal, and Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon followed the same path. They did not charge full game prices, however.

Since we expect a release price of $59.99 for a full game, we can assume the content will match. This means that we can expect a decent amount of content, including maps, missions, characters, and story. Considering that a $59.99 game should provide a satisfying experience, we can expect a lot from the upcoming expansion.
