Surviving is one of the core facets of Core Keeper. No matter what you do, you are going to expend energy, whether that is mining, running or fighting in the depths. So, grabbing food is going to be a top priority. While there are many plants around, you get some of the best buffs from fishing, especially for mining buffs. However, it is not quite clear how to fish in Core Keeper. We intend to change that with this Core Keeper fishing guide.

How to get a fishing Rod in Core Keeper

How to get a fishing rod in Core Keeper
Creating a Fisherman class grants you a wooden rod for free when you spawn.

Firstly, to fish in Core Keeper, you will need to grab a fishing rod. At the very start of the game, you are in the hands of the RNG gods. The only way to get a rod fairly early on is by getting lucky when destroying wooden boxes as you explore the caves. There is a chance you can get a wooden Fishing Rod from these boxes, letting you fish early on.

You can remove the process of RNG using two factors. The first is to choose the Fisher class when creating the character. Every fish class spawns with a Wooden Fishing Rod, which allows you to fish straight away. However, if you want to craft a Fishing Rod, then you need to unlock the Tin Workbench. From the Tin Crafting Bench, you can craft a tin fishing rod.

Stop holding the line when the red fish appears.

When you finally get your hands on a fishing rod, you’ll want to use it on fishing pools in bodies of water. You can see these by the bubbles you can see in water tiles. We recommend getting as close to them as possible, as it seems like throwing your rod at full power only launches the line three blocks long.

If the block is one tile away, you should be able to use very little power to hit the bubble spot. If the fish pool is two blocks away, you should go half power, and three blocks away for full power. Once your line is cast, it is a waiting game. You should pay attention to the bubble noises the game makes. You have till the fourth bubble till the fish gets free. It also appears that the fourth bubble is the easiest way to catch a fish when you get to the mini-game.

Once you enter the mini-game, you have to drag the fish icon to the left. You hold down your left click and drag it back. When it turns red, you want to let go immediately, so it doesn’t rapidly climb towards the right side of the bar. Continue fighting it until you get the fish to the left and make a successful catch.

And there we have it, you now know how to fish in Core Keeper. Good luck out there, master angler. Why not check out our Core Keeper guide section we are building as we speak for more Core Keeper guides.
