For anyone who has been under a rock the last 24 hours, Counter-Strike 2 was abruptly announced for this summer.

The announcement was delivered along with a CS2 limited test, allowing chosen players to mess around with some of the newest features of the new title. Currently, there is no information regarding a potential Counter Strike 2 beta.

However, it is typical for games to undergo testing prior to release. The developers’ approach to conducting a closed or open beta remains uncertain, but they will likely prioritize stress testing the new systems and servers before updating CSGO.

If we take the dev’s message on their announcement seriously, then it looks as though there will not be a CS2 beta:

All of the game’s new features will be revealed when it officially launches this summer, but the road to Counter-Strike 2 begins today as a Limited Test for select CS:GO players.

As it is all speculation at the moment, it is hard to say with confidence whether or not there will be a CS2 beta. Looking back, CSGO launched as a beta around 9 months before the game was fully released, allowing those that had backed the game a chance to jump in and test it out.

Things are different going from CSGO to CS2 as it is seen more as a core update than an actual new game. This recently happened in the world of Dota 2, with Source engine games looking to jump over to the almighty Source 2 engine.

So while the time frame of the announced release date is far shorter than the previous iteration, that doesn’t mean we won’t see a beta over the coming months.

As mentioned, there is a CS2 limited test going on right now, giving players the chance to give developers feedback on some of the key features. This first wave of feedback may lead to major changes or not before another possible testing stage.

As it stands, there is no news on how long people are going to be able to test CS2 for now, so it is hard to gauge what date we may see a beta release.

What could a CS2 beta show us?

The current CS2 play test is limited to deathmatch and non-ranked defusal, all on Dust 2. It would be great to see the latest smoke, lighting, and other system upgrades across a selection of other maps.

A closer look at how to map development has changed for the common user and what the implementation of the Source 2 engine truly looks like in all its glory would also be another great thing to see.

Even if there was no Counter Strike 2 beta, there isn’t that long to wait till the update but we are already chomping at the bit for this, so let’s hope it releases June 1st latest!

FAQs

Will there be a CS2 open beta?

We expect there to be a CS2 beta at some point before the launch. Although it might just be that the game is released and patches will fix it over time as the limited test might do it enough times.

We have already had somewhat of a closed beta, but with the release rapidly approaching, it’s hard to tell if we average Jo’s are going to get a chance to play it before launch.

When will the CS2 beta launch?

We expect to see the CS2 beta to come before summer, as that is the launch period for the update itself.
