A new DBD original Chapter is coming in June 2022 titled Roots of Dread, and confirms an earlier Reddit leak. The story revolves around a seemingly perfect town. However, this town is home to the new killer, The Dredge, based on the boogeyman. Also living in this small American Town is Haddie Kaur, an all-new survivor with interesting psychic abilities.

New DBD Chapter 24, Roots of Dread

The new DBD Killer, The Dredge

The Dredge is the embodiment of fear itself, an inescapable fear, with the traditional boogeyman being inside your house, or under your bed. To keep in with the theme of being able to infiltrate your personal space, The Dredge’s Power revolves around being able to teleport through in-game lockers – so there’s nowhere safe to hide anymore.

Meanwhile, the horrifying creature has no logical biological design, not based on a human, but more of a monster – a first for DBD originals, and most parallel to the Stranger Things Demogorgon before it.

The Dredge’s Power — Reign of Darkness

The Dredge operates best in darkness, bringing people’s darkest secrets and fears to reality in literal darkness, which falls upon the map with his Special Ability, Nightfall.

Special Ability: Nightfall

Nightfall triggers automatically once it is fully charged, and is charged through injuring or hooking survivors, or teleporting through lockers with The Gloaming. The Nightfall Meter also charges quicker for every injured Survivor.

Once active, Nightfall releases a darkness over the map. Lasting 60 seconds (or less if The Dredge’s Remnant is destroyed by a Survivor), Nightfall allows The Dredge to teleport faster with a shorter cooldown, and also removes its Terror Radius. Meanwhile, Survivors are left operating in relative darkness.

Special Ability: The Gloaming

The Gloaming is The Dredge’s ability to teleport across the map through Lockers. Triggering The Gloaming will leave a Remnant behind, which can be destroyed by Survivors to shorten Nightfall and prevent The Dredge returning to it. Meanwhile, The Dredge is able to teleport from the Remnant location to any nearby locker, and then between lockers, up to a maximum of three teleportations before it must leave. If The Dredge teleports to a locker with a Survivor already inside, it will cause the Survivor to be instantly picked up and removed from the locker.

Survivors are able to lock Lockers from the outside. If The Dredge finds itself in a locked locker, it can still get out, it just takes a short while longer, and makes noise, alerting nearby Survivors to the Killer’s location.

The Dredge’s Perks

  • Darkness Revealed
  • Dissolution
  • Septic Touch

Darkness Revealed

As a level one Perk, when you open a locker, the auras of all Survivors within eight meters of any lockers are revealed to you for three seconds. At level two, this will increase to four seconds, and five seconds at level three. This perk has a 30-second cooldown.

Dissolution

Three seconds after injuring a Survivor by any means, Dissolution activates for 12 seconds (at level one). While Dissolution is active, if a Survivor fast vaults over a Pallet whilst inside your Terror Radius, The Entity will break the Pallet at the end of the vault, deactivating Dissolution. Dissolution will last for 16 seconds at level two, and 20 seconds at level three, it will always end once The Entity breaks a pallet.

Septic Touch

Whenever a Survivor performs a Healing action within your Terror Radius, that Survivor suffers from Blindness and Exhausted Status Effects.
At level one, these effects linger for 6 seconds after the Healing action is interrupted by any means, increasing to seven seconds at level two, and eight seconds at level three.

A new DBD original Survivor, Haddie Kaur

Haddie Kaur is a new original Survivor for Dead by Daylight, and is the first Indian character. The young woman grew up in Quebec with her parents, before they were killed in a car accident for which Haddie blamed herself. However, her trauma seemed to leave her with paranormal powers, showing her images from another time, another dimension, in which terrible things happened – and linking her to The Dredge.

These powers are very vaguely linked to Haddie’s three unique Perks, while “The Ravage” – mentioned in her Inner Focus Perk – is the name she gives to the horrifying world she sees in her visions.

Haddie Kaur’s Perks

  • Overzealous
  • Residual Manifest
  • Inner Focus

Overzealous

Cleansing a totem will result in an increase to your Generator repair speed. This increase will be 4% for a level one Perk, 5% for level two, and 6% for level three.

Residual Manifest

After successfully blinding the Killer, they will suffer from the Blindness Status Effect for 20 seconds at level one, 25 seconds at level two, and 30 seconds at level three. Residual Manifest will also allow you to be able to rummage through an already opened chest and find a Flashlight.

Inner Focus

With Inner Focus, you can see the scratch marks of other Survivors within 32 meters. When another Survivor loses a health state within this same distance of you, the Killer’s aura is revealed to you for three seconds at level one, four seconds at level two, and five seconds at level three.

A new map for Chapter 24 — The Garden of Joy

A new Chapter means another new realm, and a new map within it. The new Realm is called the Withered Isle, and is an island referenced in both Haddie Kaur and The Dredge’s character stories. The first map within that realm in The Garden of Joy. Based on the classic horror movie trope of a small American town, The Garden of joy appears perfect at first glance, just like the beautiful house within in. But this garden is slowly becoming overgrown with the darkness of this troubled town and its residence, and is literally breaking apart. The central house, just like the rest of the island, looks like a dream suburban home from the outside, and even the first few steps within. But as you venture further in, you’ll notice not everything is quite as it seems.

Garden of Joy map Dead by Daylight

This new map, Garden of Joy, is a really nice map aesthetically, with lots to take in on your first few trips there, be sure to have a good look around at all the details around you. Even better, the realm itself is apparently built from the memories of different DBD characters, and so may be expanded upon more in future updates.

When is Chapter 24; Roots of Dread coming to DBD?

While Steam PC gamers can access the new Killer, Survivor and map right now thanks to a new Public Test Build, the new DBD Chapter will be officially released on June 7, 2022.
