The Witch Queen expansion for Destiny 2 brings with it not only a fantastic story arc, finally shedding some much-needed light onto the mystery that is Savathun, but also a bunch more mechanics that are set to enhance the playing experience for all. One such mechanic is the hotly anticipated weapon crafting which looks to switch things up for Guardians, keeping things fresh for the future.

While Bungie has taken the time to somewhat explain how weapon crafting works, there’s not been enough information to make it clear enough for all. That’s where we come in and below, we’ll try to give you the full rundown on what weapon crafting entails in The Witch Queen.

What is weapon crafting in Destiny 2?

So you know weapon crafting is coming to Destiny 2 with The Witch Queen but what actually is it? Will you be able to forge your arsenal from scratch? Well, unfortunately, not quite.

What weapon crafting does allow is for you to choose specific perks for your guns, giving you the ability to fine-tune your loadouts for each different situation you are in. Whether you want to jump into some PVE raid action or go fully competitive for Trials of Osiris, you can swap and change those perks on your weapons to suit.

Now, you’ve just booted up the new Witch Queen expansion for Destiny 2 but wondering where the weapon crafting options are, you’re not alone. It’s not abundantly clear how to weapon craft right off the bat so we’re here to debunk those rumors and set the record straight on how to unlock weapon crafting in The Witch Queen expansion.

First off, we’re going to disappoint you a little here…you won’t be able to weapon craft until you have a fully formed Glaive in your possession. This is because you need to get through the campaign for it to make sense that you can weapon craft.

Upon reaching this point in the expansion, though, you’ll have to be in the new Enclave area on Mars and use the ‘crafting table’ to ‘shape’ weapons to your liking. But, you won’t be able to do all that you want quite yet. You’ll first need to obtain Patterns (essentially weapon blueprints) that can be found in various ways when simply playing the game. You’ll also need to acquire a randomly dropped weapon that has Deepsight Resonance, a new way of allowing you to add perks onto your loadout. This Deepsight Resonance needs to be attuned in order for it to reach its full potential. This requires you to use the weapon extensively to ‘level’ it up, akin to the methods of old in the original Destiny title.

Finally, there are also Mementos that won’t give you strategic advantages in battle, but instead, will allow you to change your gun’s appearance and maybe even apply some trackers that were traditionally only unlocked through Masterworking.
