A rather popular enquiry circulating the Overwatch fandom at the moment is regarding whether or not PS Plus is needed to play the newest title in Blizzard’s Overwatch series, Overwatch 2. Players on PS4 and PS5 are wondering if having PS Plus will effect online matches for them, or if the subscription will be unnecessary.

We’re here to tell you why having PlayStation Plus is not a requirement to play Overwatch 2.

Is PS Plus needed for Overwatch 2?

Fortunately, as Blizzard themselves have confirmed, Overwatch 2 players on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 will not need PS Plus in order to go online and enter matches.

Whilst most online games for PS4 and PS5 require a PS Plus account, like MW2 (2022), for example, Overwatch 2 is free-to-play, and does not need a subscription.

Lots of consoles have made this decision, thankfully, so this goes for most free-to-play games on Nintendo Switch, Xbox consoles, and PC too! You’ll be able to connect to online and play, no questions asked.
