The popular game mode Master League is set to be coming to eFootball after it has been missing since the game went free-to-play, and rebranded from PES.

It is set to come out at some point during 2023, well over a year after the initial game was released.

The major catch with the Master League update that is set to come to the game, is it will in fact be paid DLC, instead of free-to-play like the eFootball base game.

As it stands there is currently no indication of how much this may cost going forward, but for a single game mode it shouldn’t be too much. Well, we hope not anyway.

This looks to be precedent for what eFootball is planning to do for all the offline content, that they are looking to bring to the game.

It’s coming a lot later than initially promised but should still be good news for any fans of the franchise, as long as it isn’t too expensive.

Master League is like any other Career Mode you may know from other sports games, where your goal is to try and build your team into the best team possible.

What made Master League interesting was the ability to start with a default squad, in a lower division. Your goal would be to try and work your way up to the top.

You then continue to build your squad over seasons, gradually improving and progressing towards your goal.

There were loads of quirks to the Master League, and hopefully they will return in eFootball, when the game mode releases in 2024. We have now got our hands on eFootball 2023, but Master League is notably missing.

What we hope returns in Master League

  • Customisable sponsor logos to be displayed in the media backdrops of interviews.
  • Facilities to help build youth players the way you want.
  • Coaches and scouts
  • Club Popularity
  • Tactics
  • Default players

Master League was certainly not perfect but it had its charm and creating your own story was a huge part of the fun.

Although it is a shame that the content is paid, if it is good then it will be worth it. Especially for die hard fans of the franchise.

This could be a great opportunity for eFootball. FIFA fans have been critical for a very longtime about the Career Mode in those games.

If eFootball can capitalise on that, there is a genuine and very real opportunity here. Football fans are desperate for a hybrid between what Football Manager is and what FIFA is, if that thing is eFootball it could be very successful.

Hopefully soon, we will know much more about the new Master League in eFootball and what we should expect.
