Elden Ring is a big old game and a large part of said big old game is utilizing what you find on the land and crafting it into essential items you will need on your travels. These items range from weaponry that you can enhance and make even more deadly to remedies that might help save your life in a tricky situation.
That said this is a Souls game so you are going to need more than a few little potions to stop you from frequently dying.
Using a crafty (no pun intended, well not much anyway) combination of foraged items and cookbooks you have purchased from a merchant, you will soon become self-sufficient and able to live largely off the land. So let’s now have a look at some of the things you will soon be knocking together like the master craftsperson you are.

How to craft in Elden Ring
Once you have chosen your class and created your character and then obtained the crafting kit from Merchant Kale that will cost you 50 runes, you will be able to begin to harvest resources from the land that you can use. Many things can be collected on your travels in Elden Ring including various items of flora and fauna that will later come in useful.
Once you have the crafting kit you will still require items known as cookbooks which contain the recipes for the items you are attempting to make. Think of them like the instructions in a piece of flat-pack furniture from Ikea, but hopefully a little more helpful.
These cookbooks are not consumable, so once you have purchased them the knowledge will remain with your character throughout the game and the rest of your journey.
