With a Metacritic rating through the roof, Elden Ring is widely regarded as the greatest game of all time. It’s also made fans just like you wonder, “How many bosses are there in the game, and how am I going to conquer them all?”

If you’re just starting on this epic journey or you’ve already embarked on it, prepare to explore a large country full of castles, dungeons, and caves, as well as trolls, monsters, and fire-breathing dragons.

Elden Ring, as you’ve already guessed, is a massive game that will take a long time to complete even if you don’t get sidetracked by all the non-main plot components.

Everything sound familiar to a very popular TV show? That’s because Game of Thrones writer George R.R. Martin was heavily involved in developing the story.

Please reserve any debate over whether Mr Martin should have been focusing on writing the Game of Thrones book finale for elsewhere, as it’s hard to complain once you’ve booted up Elden Ring!

Anyway, onto the bosses!

Pre-launch, it was rumored that Elden Ring included more than 50 bosses. However, the exact number is unknown as the game is so gigantic that no one had been able to discover them all yet.

Now it’s been released, some claim that Elden Ring has 83 bosses in all. This figure comprises all of the game’s main bosses, mini-bosses, and field bosses.

So, as you navigate through this universe, you will come across a plethora of bosses. Some are small field bosses who live in dungeons or travel freely, while others, like Godrick the Grafted, are more powerful. Those are formidable foes concealed beneath the walls of legacy dungeons.

In total, 74 of these are one-of-a-kind bosses. This means you’ll have to deal with at least 9 types of bosses multiple times. Best to take notes the first time around!

Remember… in Elden Ring, no matter where you go in this dark fantasy land, a boss encounter is always just around the corner.

How many bosses do you need to beat to finish Elden Ring?

Margit
Margit – the Fell Omen boss

All of the Elden Ring main bosses necessary to complete the story campaign are a massively difficult journey in themselves. They’re a horde of irritated demigods that are quite averse to your constant exploring.

Alas, there are many more bosses than these! Optional foes are scattered around Elden Ring’s landscape.

But, if you’re only interested in the main story campaign, we can quickly show you what’s you’re in store for.

Here are all of the Elden Ring primary bosses you’ll need to defeat in order to complete the main narrative:

  1. Margit, the Fell Omen
  2. Godrick the Grafted
  3. Red Wolf of Radagon
  4. Renalla, Queen of the Full Moon
  5. Godfrey, First Elden Lord
  6. Morgott, the Omen King
  7. Fire Giant
  8. Maliketh, The Black Blade
  9. Godfrey, First Elden Lord (yup, once again!)
  10. Hoarah Loux, Warrior
  11. Radagon of the Golden Order
  12. Elden Beast

There’s some debate on in this 12 number, as you’ll also notice that Godfrey appears twice, and some of these bosses are essentially all one fight since completing one propels you into another. And, while the Red Wolf and Margit aren’t as necessary, they are impeding your progress toward achieving them, so you must go through them.

So, I only need to beat 12 bosses and I’ve finished Elden Ring?

Not really…

Why? Although theoretically you just have to battle the bosses mentioned above, we can almost guarantee that you won’t be able to win the game if you only face them.

Other bosses aren’t required, but they do grant Runes, weapons, and new powers that will bring make the unavoidable boss fights a WHOLE lot easier.

So, our advice is to seek out other bosses, steal their gear and spells and gain Runes for leveling up. Leveling up is the key to getting unstuck on a main boss.

Remember: One of the most important things you can do before confronting most of these bosses is to enhance your armor and equipment!
