Godrick is a devastatingly strong enemy who employs wide-reaching area attacks, which are boosted by a mid-match powerup obtained through impromptu battlefield surgery. To make things easier, we’ve divided this guide into two parts: the first phase, which is how the battle starts, and the second phase, which takes place after the cutscene. Nonetheless, no matter what stage he’s in, there is some essential information to keep in mind.

  • You’ll need to have a weapon that is at least +3 to be properly prepared. Even higher is even better! You may also need to have some solid enhancements to back it up.
  • Take things slow and level up beforehand. The Site of Grace is located directly outside this boss encounter, so you may easily teleport back after some grinding or exploring. This is really a great chance to prepare against other foes – we’re not kidding when we say that Godrick is tough, so you’ll need to perform some prior training.
  • Need the helping hand of a friend? A little basement beside a gold tree with a Golden Seed will be found down the long centre route opposite Godrick’s arena (the one with the Troll standing with his back to you). Inside is an NPC named Nepheli; speak with her, finish her speech, and repeat at the Roundtable Hold. She’ll place a summoning sign outside Godrick’s arena for you to utilise from then on!

Overall, Godrick’s assaults are largely melee strikes of different types. These are occasionally enhanced with magical abilities that give them a little more range. Bear in mind that he’ll struggle to keep up with you if you keep him at a distance and perform ranged attacks.

Don’t take his strikes head-on. Godrick’s strikes are so powerful they will either tear through your barrier or stagger you even if you successfully block them. Opt for rolling and evasion instead of standard blocking, and you will thank yourself later!

This is good advice for any Elden Ring boss fight: take a moment (or a death or two!) to be mindful of the arena’s design. Learn what can obstruct your movement and cause problems or be of help throughout the fight. For example, in Godrick’s boss fight, there are several tombstones and boulders along the central road. Still, Godrick’s assaults will cut straight through them, so they can’t even be utilized for defense.

Godrick the Grafted – Phase One

Godrick in Elden Ring may be obsessed with dragons and armed to the teeth with… well… arms, but he’s got hidden depths to him. Opening strikes don’t hold back and are particularly lethal. Just getting to the halfway mark deserves a pat on the back. Here are some general pointers to help you get there.

  • To start, Godrick will appear far back down the route, giving you the opportunity to utilise Ash Spirits – we prefer the Lone Wolves or Skeletal Militiamen, if you have them. Godrick’s assaults can waste any summon instantly therefore having numerous appear is useful to split his focus.
  • Learn to predict Godrick’s most lethal strikes. In true FromSoftware fashion, the boss’ attacks are hinted at with subtle yet perceptible windups. He’s soon to be covered by devastating stormwinds if he’s swinging his large golden axe above his head. Back away fast and far if he raises it in both hands with the weapon aimed down! He’s preparing to do a two-part ground-smash that will kill most characters in his vicinity.
  • Rolling straight towards Godrick while he’s in the air is the best choice for any of his jump attacks. By timing it properly, he’ll soar right past you.
  • Godrick occasionally initiates combination strikes, which might vary unexpectedly at important moments based on what you are doing. For example, after summoning the storm winds, he may initiate a rolling assault or use ranged magic, depending on the player’s proximity. Don’t get over-confident or fall into a rhythm – he’s capable of surprising you at any time.
  • Consume flasks after his most powerful strikes, like as his seismic ground-smash. There is normally a brief cooldown during which you can heal and replenish your stamina.

Godrick the Grafted – Phase Two

When Godrick is down to half health, a cinematic cutscene begins in which Godrick decides to enhance his skills in a pretty bizarre way. By severing his arm and putting a reanimated dragon’s head on the stump instead, he now has new attacks, boosting his earlier moves with extra firepower. He has greater ranged offense now, but he’s still mostly a melee boss. Here’s some more wise counsel to assist you in slaying the ruler of Stormveil Castle.

  • As expected, Godrick’s dragon arm can shoot fire jets. However, it’s possible to get beneath it and slash him without getting burnt. That’s because the attacks are long and clumsy, even despite causing much more damage if they land. That’s how he begins phase 2, so, depending on your armour and stats, you’re at risk of getting one-shotted if you fall below three-quarters of your maximum health.
  • The ground-smash now has three strikes, a longer range, and a shorter warning. Despite this, it appears to be a little closer to him, but don’t take this as thinking you’re safe on his flanks!
  • The best way to deal some serious damage is to keep your distance. Do this until he tries to unleash his fiery ranged attacks, then charge in after he’s locked into that animation. He’ll respond with an axe swipe to get rid of you, which is your opportunity to roll away and tease him into additional ranged attacks.
