In a year filled to the brim with exciting, long-awaited game releases, Elden Ring is right up there with the hottest. And the day has finally come for FromSoftware veterans and newbies alike to get started in George RR Martin’s The Lands Between, the glorious setting of the new souls-like game.
If you’re not sure whether you want to join them (or you just want to see if your opinion matches those of everyone else), then metacritic is a great place to figure it out. So let’s take a look at just how Elden Ring is performing on metacritic as of its release day.
What is Elden Ring’s release day metacritic score?
Well, let’s just say it’s looking good for FromSoftware. Despite some early hiccups, Elden Ring is the highest scoring game of 2022 so far. With an average score of 97 out of 100 on PlayStation 5, and 95 on both Xbox Series X and PC, Elden Ring is currently sitting pretty at 96 out of 100. For context (if you even need any) this puts Elden Ring just above God of War. It’s then miles above Horizon Forbidden West, which sits behind the other two on just 88 out of 100 – having lost one point since release day.
Looking at some of the top scorers, Elden Ring has been described as “epic”, “the best game FromSoftware has ever developed” and “one of the greatest RPGs of all time”. What’s more, Publishers Bandai Namco have already come out with a statement confirming that a patch will be pushed out as soon as possible to fix day one issues players have discovered. As such, we can only expect Elden Ring – and its metacritic score – to get better from here.
So, should you get Elden Ring?
Of course, when you’re looking at something as subjective as gaming, despite its high metacritic score, Elden Ring still won’t be for everyone. However, if you’re interested in trying new things and trust the opinions of those in the industry, then Elden Ring certainly won’t disappoint. And if you’re a fan of RPGs, MOBAs and souls-like games – or just George RR Martin’s work – then you should probably already be playing it.
