Elden Ring is an almost impossibly vast game. Its open-world stretches and sprawls on a scale that few games have managed to achieve. Getting around the lands between, while an unforgettable experience, is fraught with danger. Thankfully, there is a way to speed up the process, as well as making it safer. Elden Ring has introduced a mount system. Here, we’ll show you how to unlock and summon Torrent, your Spectral Steed and best friend as you traverse the world of Elden Ring.
Elden Ring How to unlock your mount
Thankfully, it couldn’t be easier to gain access to your mount in Elden Ring. All you need to do is find Melina at a site of grace. This can – and should – be done almost as soon as you start your journey through Elden Ring. When Melina offers you a bargain, simply accept. You will receive the Spectral Steed Whistle.
If for any reason you decline the bargain, don’t panic! You can call Melina to Sites of Grace at any point, and she will give you the option to take the bargain again.
How to summon and ride Torrent
Much like Geralt’s Roach before him, Torrent is beloved for his reliability. There’s no picking this fella up from the stables, Torrent is able to appear almost instantaneously at the player’s summons. Once you have the Spectral Steed Whistle, equip it as you would a consumable item. When you use the whistle, Torrent will be summoned to your side!
Fighting on horseback
Torrent isn’t just a mode of transport in Elden Ring, he’s also a trusty ally, granting you even more options in combat. This can enable you to perform hit-and-run tactics or fight against other mounted combatants on a more even footing. While riding Torrent, you have access to both strong and regular attacks. Though the timing will be different from fighting on foot, if you get in the practice, you’ll soon be a mounted combat master.
Spirit Springs
Spirit springs are another method of fast transport in Elden Ring. The Lands Between have a surprising amount of verticality. Spirit Springs make it possible to reach the higher peaks and elevated secrets of the world without hassle.
Spirit Springs initially look like strange, circular patches of water. They are very distinct, so there’s no need to worry about them blending into the landscape. Move Torrent over to one of them, and when you press jump, you’ll launch yourself high into the air, scaling sheer cliff walls and more with a single bound!
