F1 Manager 22 Tips & Tricks – Choose the right team for you

If you’re just starting out in F1 Manager 22, the best tip we can give you is to make sure you choose the best starting constructor team for you. You can check out our full F1 Manager 22 starter teams guide for a full breakdown.

To put it simply though, this tip can be broken down into three areas:

  • Difficulty – Do you want to win races comfortably straight away? Scrap in the midfield? Or, play catch-up with a backmarker?
  • Time – Do you want to invest multiple seasons taking a backmarker to the top?
  • Story – Maybe you already have a favourite F1 team, or just want to create an amazing storyline.

If you think that putting five seasons into the game before you can challenge for podiums is not for you, our tip is to take Mercedes. They are a great all-round team with a high budget, quality drivers, and a good car.

Start Developing Your Car

Car part development is as much of an integral part of F1 Manager 22 as it is in the real sport. This tip can also be broken down into three areas:

  • Design – This is where you decide which part of the car you would like your engineers to begin developing for this season’s car. There is plenty to sink your teeth into here so be sure to check out our full car parts development guide.
  • Manufacture – Once your engineers have designed the part, they need to actually build it. Our tip here is to always produce a couple of spares, you never know when a driver might damage your current set-up.
  • Research – If you’ve decided to take the reins at a backmarker team, you’re likely going to focus more on this area than design. This is where your engineers will begin researching and planning for next season’s car. This area of car part development only becomes available after new regulations have been voted on each season.

F1 Manager 22 Tips & Tricks – Scout and Sign New Drivers

Investing in young talent early on in F1 Manager 22 will give you an edge.

Each driver has a growth potential stat which determines how much experience they can gain after each race weekend. This amount also increases based on the level of your team’s Race Simulator.

Our first tip here is to replace a driver with low growth potential with a young driver with a higher growth potential early on. This will allow you to maximize the amount of experience they gain and enable them to reach their potential.

If you need some scouting ideas, check out Oscar Piastri, Jack Doohan, Frederik Vesti and Théo Pourchaire. These are all good options for highly-rated young drivers, with high growth potential.

Start Upgrading Your Facilities

In F1 Manager 22, the quality of your team’s facilities has a major impact on a number of areas. This could be the amount of experience your drivers gain each week in the Race Simulator or the number of engineers you can hire at your team’s Factory. The level of your Design Centre also determines the number of development projects you can produce simultaneously.

Our tip for this one is to upgrade your team’s Race Simulator as soon as possible. Each upgrade provides a 20% increase in driver experience gained per week.

F1 Manager 22 Tips & Tricks – Use Your Practice Sessions

F1 Manager 22 has a lot of depth. You can watch every practice session, qualifying, and race unfold at real-time speed. You can, of course, simulate all of these sessions too. Our tip here is quite simple, don’t. The more you put into F1 Manager 22, the more you’ll get out of it. This applies to practice sessions as well.

In practice, there are three areas of confidence that your drivers will be aiming to achieve. These are track acclimatization, set-up confidence, and car parts knowledge. While all three of these will increase if you simulate the sessions, you can really fine-tune each driver’s set-up by managing them.

Check out our F1 Manager 22 practice session guide for an in-depth look at extracting the most performance from your car and getting your drivers as confident as possible.

Become a Master Strategist

Our next set of tips are all about race day. You’ve done all the preparation; your drivers are good to go and the car is ready. Now there are just a few final tasks.

Our first tip is to decide which strategy you want each of your drivers to use. Going for an aggressive start with two pit stops? Or, perhaps you need to make up some places and going long with one pit stop is the best way.

Whatever your choice, make sure to update it in each driver’s strategy window before the race. If you forget or need to adapt on the fly, you can select the strategy view tab in the top right of the race screen and make any necessary changes.

Our second tip is to make sure you utilize the pace target options in the strategy planner. This means if you want your driver to go for an aggressive first stint on soft tires, you can see a projection of when they may need to pit driving at this pace.

Our final tip is to adjust each driver’s driving options before the race begins. This means if want them to begin the race aggressively, you can pre-set this. This is a crucial trick to getting the best launch possible.

F1 Manager 22 Tips & Tricks – Final Word

F1 Manager 22 is an incredibly in-depth and intense game. Everything you need to know is not always explained fully (which we understand, we wouldn’t want to be sat in tutorials all day either).

We hope that this F1 Manager 22 tips guide has helped you to improve your chances of making your way up the grid, or staying at the top.
