It was another sensational season for Manchester City last year. Their dominance in English football is genuinely terrifying and if they could just crack the Champions League they would be considered one of the very best.

City don’t concede many, they score loads and they soak up possession like a sponge in water. At times it can be cruel watching them play other teams, as they demolish them 5-0 and the opposition has barely touched the ball.

They are already one of the best teams in FIFA, but they have finally signed a proper striker, so in FIFA 23 they are going to be even better.

Get used to seeing the City badge as you load into a game of seasons. Manchester City are going to be very popular, and their players will be found throughout Ultimate Team for the whole year.

Man City: Goalkeepers and defenders

cancelo

Ederson – 90 (+1)

Zack Steffen – 77 (-)

Stefan Ortega – 79 (+1)

Arijanet Muric – 70 (+2)

Scott Carson – 67 (-)

Rúben Dias – 88 (+1)

Aymeric Laporte – 86 (-)

John Stones – 84 (+1)

Nathan Aké – 78 (-)

João Cancelo – 88 (+2)

Kyle Walker – 86 (+1)

Sergio Gomez – 74 (+6)

Manuel Akanji – 81 (+1)

By the end of the transfer window it seems very unlikely this list of defenders will be the same. Players like Aké are rumoured to be on the move this season, and will likely be replaced.

During last season this crop of players proved once again just how good they are, all of them are incredible with the ball at their feet and they have such good technical ability, they very rarely lose the ball. That’s without mentioning their discipline and defensive ability.

City’s defender who impressed the most however, has to be João Cancelo. He can play on either side, excelling as an inverted full back on the left. His delivery is one of the best in the league, and he should be an easy pick for a stats boost in FIFA 23

The loss of Zinchenko definitely leaves the club lacking at left-back, however they have replaced him with Sergio Gomez, it still remains to be seen how effectively he can replace the departing Ukrainian.

Man City: Midfielders

kd

Rodri – 87 (+1)

Kalvin Phillips – 82 (+1)

Ilkay Gündogan – 85 (-)

Kevin De Bruyne – 92 (+1)

Bernardo Silva – 87 (+1)

Cole Palmer – 69 (+6)

Captain and club legend Fernandinho has left the club after nine very succesful years. He may have played less games last season but he has been hugely influential during his Manchester City career; he has been a pillar for a lot of their success.

Kalvin Phillips is their new key signing for their midfield, he will be sharing minutes with Rodri and acting as a replacement for Fernandinho. He is a different option to both though, his game relies on a high press which is needed to play for Man City, but his ability to drop between defenders and spray killer balls will be a huge asset going into next season.

City’s ability to rotate makes it difficult to predict the rating for their squad. Gündogan was one of their best players during the 19/20, yet last season he started in less than half of their league games. This is part of the reason why City are so strong, they can afford to give players ample rest and ensure they’re fit when called upon.

Man City: Forwards

haaland

Jack Grealish – 84 (-)

Riyad Mahrez – 87 (+1)

Erling Haaland – 89 (+1)

Julián Álvarez – 79 (+4)

Phil Foden – 85 (+1)

Man City’s forward line may be missing Raheem Sterling and Gabriel Jesus, two players they have begun to rely on for goals in recent years. Yet the rise of Phil Foden, and the versatility of players like Bernardo Silva, combined with their new signings means they have become surplus to requirement.

Their marquee signing of this summer, and the reason Jesus and Sterling can leave, is Norwegian forward Erling Haaland. Haaland’s addition to the league is huge for Ultimate Team players. He will be one of the must have cards going into FIFA 23 with his combination of pace, power and precision. Haaland, will be terrifying for all teams that face him next season, in both FIFA and the real world.

Grealish, Manchester City’s big signing for last season, didn’t quite live up to expectations but probably did enough to retain his rating going into FIFA 23. Hopefully this year, he can get a few more form based specials and show what he is really about.

Final thoughts

City’s players will once again be some of the best players in FIFA 23’s Ultimate Team, and if you’re lucky enough to pack one early on, you could be set up for quite a while.

Their depth across the pitch will means they will also be a nightmare to play against, in both Seasons and Kick-off. If rumours are to be believed they will continue to strengthen before the end of the transfer window. Potentially adding a left-back as well as strengthening in other areas too.

The addition of Haaland now means this Manchester City side is more complete than ever before. The green link between Haaland and Kevin De Bruyne is going to be a must for the top players in the game, we will get used to seeing the two link up very quickly both in game and in real life too.
