Square Enix gave everyone watching the PlayStation Showcase a bit of a fake out with its newest title, Foamstars. The reveal trailer started off in a dark and foggy city before completely transforming with bright lights, fun music, and a big foam battle. This new 4v4 party shooter promises to deliver on the fun, competitive experience.

Here’s everything that we know so far about Foamstars!

Foamstars Release window prediction

Foamstars has not been given a release date yet. But, the team behind the game is hard at work getting this party shooter ready, so expect to see more information on it soon. When we receive a release date, we’ll update this article.

We believe the release window will be sometime in early 2024.

Foamstars Platforms

Foamstars is being released on the following consoles:

  • PlayStation 4
  • PlayStation 5

There is no word on if the game plans to be released on any other platforms, including Xbox Series X/S and Xbox One, PC, or Nintendo Switch.

Foamstars Gameplay

Foamstars is a 4×4 party shooter where teams compete in a large-scale foam battle. While you can definitely shoot foam at each other, you can also build up multicolored foam on the ground to surf across it, build up a foam fortress for high ground, and other terrain altering purposes.

The reveal trailer showed a full cast of characters as well, with distinct designs and different abilities, ranging from full foam bazookas, dual foam pistols, and foam flamethrowers. The only gameplay shown off was normal matches, so it’s unknown whether or not other modes will be available or if a social hub will be present.

The reveal trailer has drawn comparisons to Nintendo’s party shooter Splatoon, which uses paint to throw at other players and cover the terrain. Using foam instead, Foamstars does seem to offer different gameplay, artstyle, and abilities than Nintendo’s title.

Foamstars promises to be a bright, exciting competitive party game with plenty of fun to be brought to the 4×4 party shooter genre. Of course, expect plenty of foam, as well.
