Fortnite is one of the most popular free-to-play games in the world, with regular content updates keeping its fans hungry for more battle royale action. The video game is available across most modern gaming platforms, leaving many asking the question – Is Fortnite crossplay?

There are a few things you are going to need to do to enable crossplay and start playing with friends on their various platforms, which we will run through in this article. For more ways to prepare playing Fortnite, you should see what locations are the most iconic, or the best hide and seek maps. If you didn’t know, the 3.4 Fortnite update added some quality-of-life improvements to cross-platform play on consoles. Later on, we saw Fortnite release on Nintendo Switch, as well as crossplay between all supported platforms.

Below we’ll tell you everything you need to know about Cross play in Fortnite.

Can I enable Fortnite crossplay on any device?

Fortnite Battle Royale is a crossplay game and requires no special setup for this feature. Instead, Epic Games forces players to play in crossplay lobbies, which isn’t everyone’s cup of tea. This process used to be very complicated in the beginning. However, that is no longer the case.

In the past, Fortnite did not require an Epic Games account. However, that has changed, and everyone who wants to play the video game needs to create this account. Once this is done, crossplay is automatically enabled and cannot be turned off on most platforms. This means that mobile, console, and PC players will all be in the same lobby.

Mobile players are put at a disadvantage against both console and PC gamers, while console gamers don’t like the idea of getting matched up against players who use a keyboard and mouse. Fortunately, Xbox and PlayStation owners can turn off crossplay on Fortnite, but this will either result in an error or in extremely long wait times.

How to play Fortnite cross-platform

It doesn’t matter which platform you are playing from, you are going to need an Epic Games account.

This account is used when playing crossplay with friends, enabling you to add them to your party. This process will also require you and your friends to link your accounts to their Epic Games accounts. Once linked, you are all good to go!

Does Fortnite have cross-progression?

Besides crossplay, Fortnite also features cross-progression. This means that you will be able to transfer your progress, including your cosmetic items, from one platform to another. Your progress is saved to your Epic Games account, which is why you can simply log in with it on another device and continue where you left off.

It’s important to note that all of your V-Bucks may not be transferred to another system. However, everything else should be fine, from your stats and wins to precious skins.
